He is well known represented in New York and Los Angeles at the George Billis Gallery and Taiwan at Bluerider art. Ida started with music then shifted over to art after working with Sam Francis.

Early life & Education[edit]

Bryan Ida was born Palo Alto, California. At a young age Ida was drawn to music, he began playing the French horn as a child. He played in his schools orchestras and the El Camino youth symphony. Bryan began focusing on his musical expression by continually seeking progressive techniques which lead to his interest in Electronic music while he was in high school. During his university days he studied at both San Jose State University and Sonoma State University to become a electronic music composition. Since he was draw to music at an early age he went to pursue musical before he venture out to physical art which made him change his name as an artist. As opportunities came to Ida, he became less interested in music but pursued a passion and a career in painting. After studying both universities Bryan had decided to only continue his career path in painting, which lead him to work for Sam Francis.

(1923 – 1994) — a renowned American abstract expressionist painter and printmaker.

Prior to working for him Ida has known Sam for many years through his connection with Paula. In 1988 Ida had decided to work for an abstract expressionist painter Sam Francis. While Ida was working along side him it gave him plenty of opportunities to work on a commission project that would later be published into a united government building in Bonn, Germany. Due to working with Francis, Bryan was offered bigger opportunities that could take his art to more places. The painting was approximately 20 x 40 ft.- a very large mural Ida recollects,

“I felt privileged to be in the studio while Sam worked. I vividly recall helping him with buckets of paint and painting tools, taking photographs, and archiving this period. Working side by side with Sam, I had the opportunity to absorb some of his knowledge and to instinctively understand his perspective and we would often talk about the correlation between music and painting and how it is the expression of the same consciousness but is conveyed through different senses. - Bryan Ida

con.Text[edit]

Con.text is a virtual exhibition which was created by Bryan Ida shown at California State University, Los Angeles in the Ronald H. Silverman Fine Arts Gallery. These series of paintings were symbols of rendering the self-inflictions from government documents to form harmful words for each subject of topic. In pen-inked strokes, each painting symbolizes a different struggle and different issue in the world, with the intent to bring light to the subject and make it very well known. Ida writes, "The intent of this series is to portray individuals as the embodiment of strength and pride standing defiantly in the face of oppression and fear by a power against them. With the current social and political environment and the recent acts that repeat past abuse and injustice I am attempting to view historic events in the context of the contemporary climate." [1]

The names of these paintings in this series include; Grandfather, neighbor, Elon, Gregory, Paul, Lorraine, Lisa, Mike, Justine, Ash, Mary Jo, heather, Tiffany, Protestor, Marcus, Blaine, Angeline, Father, and Manzanar.

Deep[edit]

In Ida's most recent series called "Deep", he has constructed various paintings in fading light which contains a species that is either considered, "endangered' or " threatened to our society. with the use of light and dark, he hopes to express and represent, "the contrast between hope and despair. His statement to his recent series proclaims there is no chance of recovering the environment from the damages humans have caused it.[2]
