Life Amongst the Modocs is a book by Joaquin Miller.

Background[edit]

Life Amongst the Modocs was published in 1873. The book was written as an exaggerated account of Joaquin Miller's experiences interacting with the Modoc people in the 1850s, when he was a young adult. He was driven to write the book following various conflicts between settlers and Modoc tribes including the Modoc War (1872–73).[1]
