The Republic of Kosovo (Republika e Kosovës / Република Косово-Republika Kosovo) is a limited recognized republic, considered by Serbia as its Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, with a parliament, the Assembly of Kosovo, elected in free multi-party elections, a president elected by the parliament and a government responsible to the parliament.
Roman Republic
  • 168 BC: Present-day Kosovo, populated by Illyrian tribes, is annexed to the Roman Empire.

  • 27 BC: Gaius Octavianus becomes sole ruler of Rome and as Augustus the first emperor.

  • 441: The region is conquered by the Huns

Albanian members of the provincial parliament of Kosovo declare a republic and secede unilateraly from Yugoslavia. Serbia dissolves the parliament and government of Kosovo. In a referendum with an high turnout, but boycotted by Serbs living in the region, over 99% of voters vote in favour of independence.
