I am a retired professor of psychology, Leiden University, the Netherlands. On the Dutch Wikipedia I am primarily upgrading existing articles, but also writing new ones. I also like to illustrate existing articles with old postcards from my collection.

I am married to Rita Kohnstamm, a psychologist and journalist, author of many articles and books in Dutch.

My major publications in English are:

G.A. Kohnstamm, J. E .Bates & M.K. Rothbart (1989) (Eds.) Temperament in Childhood. Chichester: Wiley

G.A. Kohnstamm, Ch. F. Halverson, I. Mervielde & V.L. Havill (1998) (Eds.) Parental Descriptions of Child Personality. Mahwah, NJ: Lawrence Erlbaum

Th. D. Wachs and G.A. Kohnstamm (2001) (Eds.) Temperament in Context. Mahwah: Lawrence Erlbaum.

G.A. Kohnstamm, Ch. F. Halverson, V. Havill & I. Mervielde (1996) (Eds.) “Parents’ Free Descriptions of Child Characteristics: A Cross-Cultural Search for the Developmental Antecedents of the Big Five” in Sara Harkness and Charles M. Super: Parents’ Cultural Belief Systems. New York: Guilford.

C.F. Halverson, G. A. Kohnstamm, & R.P. Martin, R.P. (1994) (Eds.) The Developing Structure of Temperament from Infancy to Adulthood. Hillsdale, NJ: Lawrence Erlbaum

All of the edited volumes contain chapters I authored or co-authored.

The most recent article I’ve published in the US is: Dolph Kohnstamm (2005) Binet, Alfred, Encyclopedia of Social Measurement. Vol. 1. p. 183-188. Elsevier.

In Switzerland I published (in German) Und plötzlich wurde mir klar: Ich bin Ich! Die Entdeckung des Selbst im Kindesalter. (Bern: Hans Huber Verlag, 2004). A revised and expanded edition of this book, in English, was published in 2007 in London, by Athena Press. Title: I am I: Sudden Flashes of Self-awareness in Childhood. With a foreword by John E. Bates (Indiana University)
