Dr. Aruna Mukim is a multifaceted social activist and the Chairperson of Amanuday NGO, which serves the societal causes that benefits the backward section of the society and the destitute. Dr. Mukim was born to Mr Devki Nandan Dalmia and Mrs Ishwari Dalmia in Delhi. She is married to Neeraj Mukim, and has 2 children; Pankhuri Mukim Nandy married to Abhishek Nandy, Director- SN Envirotech and Parth Mukim. She completed her P.Hd in Hindi literature.

One of the most distinguished personalities in India, Dr. Aruna Mukim has formerly been the president of Kalptaru Association, ex-consultant of WAPCOS {Water and Power Consultancies, Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India}. Book Writing[edit]

Dr. Aruna Mukim has a penchant for writing, a passion that she has translated into writing books in subjects that range from Hindi short stories, reference books and even mythology. To date, she has authored eight books. Two of them, Ek Ruh Yeh Bhi and Doosra Rukh are Hindi short stories. Her other notable works of Hindi literature are Naari Asmita ka prashan. (Reference book), Ek Sunehra Safar (A coffee table book, an ode to her parents)Dakshayni (A love Saga of Shiva and Sati,Novel-Hindi ) Dakshayni (Novel, English version), Hamari Adhoori Kahani (A novel, curated into a Bollywood Movie), Mehlon Mein Banwas ( A Hindi Novel based on the virah of Urmila, Wife of Laxman). She also helped in writing the dialogues of Hamari Adhuri Kahani (2015), a hindi movie starring Vidya Balan, Emran Hashmi, and Rajkumar Rao.

  • Represented Indian Women in the delegation of Paigham-E-Aman to Pakistan to meet the then President of Pakistan General Parvez Musharraf.
  • She’s a fine artist, with a Series of Tanjore and Ajanta Paintings under her belt.
  • Initiated People to people contact with Nirmala Deshpande in a peace initiative with Pakistan.

Social Work[edit]

Dr. Aruna Mukim is widely regarded for her endeavors to benefit the society and she has also been instrumental in promoting Gandhian teachings. Vis-à-Vis Amanuday NGO, she also runs a school by the name of AMANUDAY TRAINING SCHOOL in which 1800 destitute girls are provided Vocational Courses like Computers training, Sewing, Stitching, Embroidery, English learning, Cooking and Beauty Culture for such girlswho are living below poverty line. She started working with Ms. Nirmala Deshpande from 1987 and joined her in extensive tours of different states and remote areas of the country to popularize Mahatma Gandhi's message and Vinoba Bhave's teachings. She even accompanied Ms. Deshpande to Pakistan after Kargil War for'People to People’ dialogue to promote understanding between India and Pakistan. Dr. Mukim has been organizing monthly ‘Cancer Awareness Camps’ for poor and destitute women.

Cultural Activities[edit]

As a perpetual participant in the cultural activities that give fillip to the down-trodden and even the society at large, Dr. Aruna Mukim has organized several exhibitions that have earned praises of all and sundry. She has organized Anupam Kher's Play “Mera woh Matlab Nahi tha” for the first time ever in Delhi. Dr. Mukim also conducted an interview of Mr. Mahehs Bhatt in Delhi, Kolkata and Ahmedabad, which was publicly known as “heart to heart Conversation with Mahesh Bhatt” in FICCI She also organized Javed Akhtar Night at Ashoka Hotel participated with Smt. Gursharan Kaur (wife of then Prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh) and attended by Shri Shatrughan Sinha & Rajeev Shukla in attendance. In the Delhi chapter 2016, she interviewed Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt. In this candid interview, the actor shared his life events.
