CEU Cardinal Herrera University


(in Spanish language Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera) is a prestigious private university inValencia, Spain. It is part of the CEU Foundation,


being the first private school of Law ever founded in Valencia. It has been associated to the University of Valencia since the early 1970s but the University gained its current name in 1999.

The University has three Faculties: Social Sciences, Health and Experimental Sciences and the Technical School. It boasts three beautiful modern campuses inMoncada (12 km from Valencia), Elche (Alicante) andCastellón. CEU Foundation currently provides high quality teaching to over 10,000 students from all over Spain, especially the regions of Valencia, Murcia, Majorca, Ibiza, and Albacete. Every year, it also welcomes a rapidly growing number of international students with programs like European Erasmus Programme.[1][2]

History[edit]

It is run by the CEU Foundation which is the biggest educational group in Spain. Centro de Estudios Universitarios includes two other universities (CEU San Pablo University in Madrid and CEU Abat Oliba University in Barcelona), many primary and secondary schools and different centres of study (MBA, Senior University, etc). It has been associated to the University of Valencia since the early 1970s. The history of UCH-CEU dates back to 1971, when the first private school of Law was founded in Valencia. The University gained its current name in 1999. The Foundation inaugurated its work in Valencia in 1971 and in Elche in 1994. The Generalitat Valenciana approved the law of the creation of the nowUniversity of Cardenal Herrera, which has been functioning since the 2000-2001 year. Now more 10,000 students from all over Spain, especially the regions of Valencia, Murcia, Majorca, Ibiza, and Albacete and international students with programs like European Erasmus Programme study there.[3]

European Higher Education Area

The University Cardenal Herrera takes part in the Program of Academic Excellence and the Organization of the Knowledge "Platon" of the CEU Foundation has started in collaboration withHarvard University and it belongs to the system of European Higher Education Area. The program of "Platon" is the strengthening of the system of tutorships for the students and the teacher who accompanies to the implementation of a system of continuous assessment.[4][5]

The University has three Schools: Social Sciences, Experimental Sciences and Technical. In the first, students can learn Politics, Journalism and Law. In the second, they study Chemistry, Veterinary Medicine and Nursing. Finally, in the third, they study Architecture, Design and Computer Engineering.

Now, CEUCH has five faculties: Health; Veterinary Science; Humanities & Information Technology; Law, Business & Political Science & Teaching Techniques.

Campus[edit]

Valencia Campus has more extension and offers more services. Are attended almost all grades offered by the university and includes almost all pupils. Castellón campus and Elche campus are two locations to help the educational task although they hardly offer educational services. For example, dentistry students are based in the Moncada campus, while medical students will be studying in Castellon de la Plana.

Students like on the dentistry programme study in Moncada, the main campus of UCH-CEU. All the main facilities, such as the Central library and International Office, are located nearby. The campus is very well connected to Valencia city centre, with a direct metro line and frequent bus service. It is also close to some of the privately run student accommodation residences. The University's brand new Central Library is a 5, 000 square meter building with a capacity for up to 700 students. Its learning facilities include several computer laboratories, 12 group study rooms and 7 research rooms. Audiovisual and Internet reference points are available in the Periodical and Media Libraries.

Medical students study at a newly-built medical school building in Castellon de la Plana, which is an attractive town about an hour away from Valencia. The town is very close to Benicassim, which is a popular beach resort. Despite its quiet and relaxed atmosphere, students can still enjoy great nightlife in the historical centre of Castellon de la Plana. The town is home to a large university hospital.

University Life[edit]

At the moment, there are 10,000 students in the University from all around Spain, especially Valencia, Murcia, Majorca, Ibiza, andAlbacete. Every year 500 students from other countries come to study at the University with the European Programme Erasmus and more than 400 students from all five continents study at the University CEU Cardenal Herrera. Come and study with students from Taiwan, UK, Japan, Senegal, New Zealand, [[Brazil] and France.[8][9]

The CEU Cardinal Herrera University has its own facilities for practical training of students, as the Center for Media Production and Multimedia, of 3,300 square meters, with television sets, radio and photography, the Veterinary Hospital, a reference in the area of Valencia, the Zoological Faculty, with various types of livestock, the University Dental Clinic, with outpatient care, laboratory practices in basic biomedical sciences and clinical simulated for the area of health. They also have a Central Library Newspaper Library, with 700 seats for consultation and over 100,000 volumes.[10][11]

La Tuna del CEU-Cardenal Herrera University: University offers classical music-making in an international orchestra and choir.

CEU Theatre: From the University offers us a formation in the classroom and the human growth across the art of the theatre.

Summer University: Nevertheless that the formation in June and July the courses organize in the frame of the Summer university.

Radio CEU A group in which it is employed first hand at the production of qualit contents for the radio of the university.

The Rotary Diary: Diary of general information by the students of the University CEU Cardenal Herrera.[12] Sport: UCH-CEU hosts regular sport competitions such as golf, football and volleyball tournaments.

Spanish language course: The International Office helps foreign students with the procedures necessary to study at the University, and also with finding accommodation or learning Spanish. The University runs two Spanish courses per academic year for international students

The CEU Cardinal Herrera University has opened research projects in collaboration with Generalitat Valenciana. Some of these lines of research examining issues such as the neural effects of consumption of drugs and alcohol, diseases such as leukemia or diabetes, drug design and media Internet. The University has three research institutes: the IDYCA (Institute of Drugs and Addictive Behavior), the IDIT (Institute of Design, Innovation and Technology) and IDEA (Institute for Environmental law and Ethics).[13]

Doctors Honoris Causa[edit]

- Valentin Fuster Director of Mount Sinai Heart, The Zena and Michael A. Wiener Cardiovascular Institute and the Marie-Josee and Henry R. Kravis Center for Cardiovascular Health. Spanish cardiologist – the only cardiologist to receive all four major research awards from the world's four major cardiovascularorganizations.[17] Fuster made news in 2006 when he managed a patient who underwent successful combined heart and lung transplant, which New York Magazine named one of the year’s "11 medical marvels".[18]

- Jose Maria Aznar (Spanish pronunciation: [xoˈse maˈɾia aθˈnar] ; born 25 February 1953) served as the Prime Minister of Spain from 1996 to 2004.[19][20] He is on the board of directors of News Corporation and is also a member of the Club de Madrid.[21]

Bishop Carlos Belo

- Bishop Carlos Belo SDB, GCL (born 3 February 1948) is an East Timorese Roman Catholic bishop. Along with José Ramos-Horta, he received the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize for work "towards a just and peaceful solution to the conflict in East Timor."

- Joaquín Navarro-Valls, M.D. (born November 16, 1936, Cartagena, Spain), was the Director of the Holy See Press Office (or Vatican Press Office), taking the post in 1984. His role as the press liaison between the Vatican and the world press corps gave him perhaps the highest visibility of any one person in the Vaticanduring the long reign of Pope John Paul II, with the exception of the Popehimself. Navarro-Valls, a non-clerical journalist, resigned his post July 11, 2006. Pope Benedict XVI has appointed the Reverend Father Federico Lombardi, S.J., to take his place. Stanley B. Prusiner in 2007

- Stanley B. Prusiner (born May 28, 1942) is an Americanneurologist and biochemist. Currently the director of the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Prusiner discovered prions, a class ofinfectious self-reproducingpathogens primarily or solely composed of protein. He received theAlbert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research in 1994 and the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1997 for his prion research.

- Stanley G. Payne (born September 9, 1934 in Denton, Texas) is ahistorian of modern Spain and European Fascism at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He retired from full time teaching in 2004 and is currently Professor Emeritus at its Department of History.

- Andrea Riccardi (born 1950 in Rome) is the founder of theCommunity of Sant'Egidio and Professor of Contemporary History at theUniversity of Rome III in Rome, Italy. Since November 16, 2011, he serves as Minister for International Cooperation without portfolio in the Monti Cabinet.[23]
