#wikipedia-esperanza[edit]

I was told to ask you whether I should be allowed back in the channel or not. So am I? Will (message me!) 07:47, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi there![edit]

Hi there! It's a bit improper to remove other people's Wikibreak messages from their pages. When a Phaedriel is back from her break, she will remove the notice at her discretion. Her notice said she'd be back around July 19th. July 20th is rather close to the 19th, right? Her page is quite frequented by the community and the notice lets a lot of users know what she's up to. With that, I'll ask you to replace it. Also, I'm quite happy to meet you, mate and if I seem at all unkind or anything in my message, please note that it isn't my intention at all to chastise you in any way. I know you were acting in good faith. Cheers! hoopydinkConas tá tú? 07:59, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Good stuff. I can't imagine any inconvienence at all. hoopydinkConas tá tú? 09:02, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

my RfA[edit]

I noticed your comment on my RfA and responded to it. I just wanted to post you something here to make sure you saw it. The basic gist of my comment is, anything you'd like to know or hear, just ask, I'll be happy to answer. Cheers! :) - CheNuevara 10:51, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Re: User account block[edit]

Former part of header: "explanation of suspected activity, and request to unblock"

Hi.

I appreciate your vigilance in protecting Wikipedia from vandalism, and can only guess at how exasperating that can be. It obviously requires fast judgement calls in order to minimize the damage a vandal can do. And even though this may block some innocents (like me), that is a small price to pay for protecting Wikipedia from vandalism.

Yesterday, you blocked my account User:List Expert, because you interpretted as vandalism some redirects that I had created. I'm writing to you now to assure you that they were not intended as vandalism, and to request that you unblock my account as I had started some discussions with that account on a page I was working on, and need the account for the sake of continuity. Here's a full explanation of what I was doing:

I was working on the page List of sexual slurs, and linkified all the terms defined on that page in order to see the subject's redlink profile. I then proceded to fix the redlinks. Rather than use pipes on the synonymous terms, I figured, since the terms were presented with source citations on a glossary-like page of Wikipedia, which increases the chances that someone might try to access those terms later via the search box, that redirects for each of the terms were warranted. And rather than redirecting the terms to the glossary, which would have created circular links, I figured it was more appropriate to redirect them to the synonym which most closely defined them (that is also a member of the list on that page). A redirect actually solves three problems at the same time: the redlink, an unsupported term in search, and allows the links to be automatically supported in the future should the redirects ever be replaced by actual topic pages.

If you had sent me a message, we could have resolved this matter withuot shutting me down for a day (as I do have another account upon which I do most of my work), but who knows how much damage a real vandal could have caused during the time it would take you to write a message. So I understand why you didn't. The reason for the new account is that I wish to keep work on the more colorful areas of Wikipedia under the new account, to as not to detract from nor distract attention away from my other body of work on Wikipedia.

Now that you have read my explanation concerning the redirects, may I go ahead and create them? Or would you prefer that piped links be utilized instead?

And please, unblock User:List Expert.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely, --List Expert2 23:19, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

User who hold in high regard[edit]

In regards to your friends, mentioned in your FAQ, there's a couple of mistakes. Firstly, CLW and Moe have gone. More importantly, I am nowhere to be seen! ;P Highway Return to Oz... 23:38, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Proposal on Notability[edit]

Because you're a member of the Association of Inclusionist Wikipedians, I'm notifying you that the inclusionist proposa Wikipedia:Non-notabilityl is in progress to define the role of notability in articles. Please help us make this successful! Also note the proposal Wikipedia:Importance is a deletionist proposla that seeks to officially introduce notabiltiy for the first time. --Ephilei 04:45, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Something Pokemon[edit]

Hi CP!

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think you know a thing or two about Pokemon? The article Talent Showdown was nominated for AfD but with no reason given or subpage created. I've cancelled it, but would like an expert to tag, delete or AfD as appropriate. At the moment, it's probably CSD-A1 but I'd prefer someone with experience of the subject to decide that in this case.

Thanks, my friend! ЯEDVERS 19:45, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

PS: Just got Skype - can I add you to my contacts, even if we never speak? ЯEDVERS

Ah, that's cool. I used to work for Tiger Electronics, maker of the Pokedex, before they were absorbed violently by Hasbro. Best place I ever worked... but all things end, I suppose. Despite working for a Pokemon licensee, I never once developed any knowledge about the subject. And yet, if you have a Furby, I have an unwanted encyclopedic knowledge of them. And a bedroom full of unsold ones we made after the boom had past (and that's part of why the company died, of course).
Good idea on Skype microphones, BTW. I was given a Skype USB phone that doesn't work and have a headset that is fine if you are happy to pretend to be talking to a guy underwater... via semaphore. I've made several podcasts for another website that are of severely limited quality thanks to that headset! I think the time has come to upgrade somewhat. Nevertheless, I'll try to add you to my contacts tonight (I'm the obviously named one mostly in Belgium, if you have a clamour of other admirers!). ЯEDVERS 21:05, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

My RfA[edit]

Thank you so much for voting in my recent RFA. It passed on the relatively narrow vote of 38/8/8. It was also one of the least-participated-in RFA nominations in several months, so pat yourself on the back, and join the party on your left, but first, take your cookie!

NOTE: I can't code HTML to save my life. I copied this from Misza13. I guess I should write him a thank you note as well. Cookies sold separately. Batteries not included. my RfA[edit]

Thanks for your support in my RfA! Unfortunately, the request did not pass, with a vote of (43/16/7). But your support was appreciated and I'll just keep right on doing what I do. Maybe I'll see ya around -- I'll be here!

Bulbasaur (again)[edit]

Just wanted to say congrats again - enjoy your day of front-page Bulbasaurness! -- Natalya 00:24, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Seconded! Make screenshots, print them and hang them all around the house :) You did a good job! --JoanneB 07:12, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I was told that you are largely responsible for today's featured article, Bulbasaur. I just want to say what an amazing job you did. You took a rather arcane topic and turned it into something studious and learned, yet quirky and fun. At a talk I am giving to a group of teachers tomorrow, I plan on mentioning this article as a prime example of what they can do with their students to promote research and writing skills. Thanks. Danny 01:52, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations. I am glad that it has finally has its day on the Main Page. Well done, not least for your persistence. -- ALoan (Talk) 09:22, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

ЯEDVERS awards this Barnstar to Celestianpower for getting a great FA on the front page after so much hard work and then letting the naysayers complaints about it wash over him.
Oh, crap, Bulbasaur was on the main page? It must have been on for about 12 hours or so because I was online just yesterday and it wasn't on, and I came online just now to see it's something else. But my full congratulations for achieving that for the Pokemon franchise and its billion or so fans anyway. And my thanks for taking a picture of it for me to see what it looked like! :) Erik the Appreciator 03:27, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
