Conclusions[edit]

Not much to conclude yet, mainly because the sampling is rubbish and the variation is large from day to day. For example, 15 January 2008 saw 717 blocks. There are also probably large seasonal variations, and peaks when certain admin backlogs get cleared (and clearing of backlogs can be shared between two days). Even from this sampling, though, it is clear that the vast majority of indefinite blocks are (as expected) username blocks and sockpuppets. Obviously, if contested, all blocks still need to be investigated, but it is the indefinite blocks of established users that I wanted to track changes in over time. To that end, analysis that includes "number of edits" is needed.
