My bureaucrat nomination[edit]

Thank you!
Thank you!

Thank you for your kind words on my nomination for bureaucrat. I'm disappointed with the results, but heartened by the support I received by so many fine Wikipedians. You're "one of the good-uns", as they say. – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 08:32, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Request for adminship[edit]

Hi Bratsche, it's me User:Mb1000. On September 21, 2005, during my last self-nomination for adminship, you left a message on my requests for adminship page stating that you would consider supporting my nomination at a later date. Like any self-respecting campaigner, I want to make sure that the support is their before launching another self-nom. I would like to know if you would now be willing to support my request for adminship. Thanks. --Mb1000 22:43, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for the advice and I have found some more images and added them to Wikipedia:Images_and_media_for_deletion you may want to check that I have done this ok. Thanks Again. Gnj 16:20, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Question[edit]

Why arnt all of the very old images in Special:Unusedimages deleted or all put onto Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion as it seem the sensible thing to do. Gnj 16:31, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Ha ha![edit]

I now wonder WHY I made the blabberhouse. I was just about to make it say "waiting for deletion" when you got rid of it! Thanks! --Blah2 17:12, 8 January 2006 (UTC) (maker of it)

Viola humor...[edit]

Rune's Coaching[edit]

Well, I thought we had already started! ;) Actually, I've started to talk a little bit to him, but I haven't had the chance to really do anything Wiki-related, since I have a lot of real life things to do. That said, he asked me if I could give him a demonstration of different admin-related activities (e.g. rollbacking, blocking, deleting, undeleting, protecting, etc.) and when he should do it, and when he shouldn't. I would also tell him where the areas of controversy are (such as blocking for personal attacks), and which things he just shouldn't do (as blocking an editor he is in a conflict with or protecting a page in which he is involved in an edit dispute). I just got to run right now... Titoxd(?!? - help us) 21:12, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Template:User Aspie[edit]

Hello, I noticed you protected this page. I am not an administrator, but as I intend to accept one of the nomination offers I've received soon, I would like the first shot at this case(for practice). I don't think anyone will need to be blocked, but... if so, I'll let you know and you can decide. Thanks,

Articles For Deletion[edit]

Hi, one or both of the following situations applies to you, and you may therefore be interested in related discussions.

You may also be interested in a discussion of whether or not the entire text of a whole bible chapter should be contained in the 6 articles concerning those specific chapters, and whether or not they should only use the translations favoured by fundamentalists. This is being discussed at Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/Whole bible chapter text.

Blocking of Lesfer[edit]

The 3RR policy states "people can be blocked for edit warring or disruption even if they do not revert more than three times per day" and also, I had warned him with "Remove the ifd from this image and you will be blocked." He removed the IFD tag again, so I initiated the block. 48 hours was obviously wrong, but this is the first time I've blocked for the 3RR rule and I did not read the policy through. My mistake.

If he removes tags again like this, I will warn him and then block him for disruption of Wikipedia processes.

On the nit-picking side of the issue, he was rude to both me and the user who nominated the improperly sourced and tagged image on WP:IFD. Unfortunately, I cannot block him for that -Regards Nv8200p talk 04:16, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

V7ndotcom Elursrebmem Deletion[edit]

Hi, I noticed you voted to on the abovementioned article. Initialy I wanted to keep it, but when I compared it to Nigritude ultramarine and Seraphim proudleduck it seems obvious that all theese articles are repating the same info:

  • It's a search contest
  • It has begin/end dates
  • It has a prize
  • It uses a unique phrase that is not used before

I'd like to urge you to change your vote to Redirect to SEO Contest where I have created already made a copy of the article. This way they dont have "their own article" but they are mentioned in the encyclopedia. Seems like a compromise to me. Right now w/ all the Delete, Keep, And Redirect votes it will be hard to reach a compromise. This user has left wikipedia 22:14, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

An Esperanzial note[edit]

As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.

In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: {{EA-welcome}} (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)

Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising[edit]

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Until the situation becomes more clear, I believe the group should still have a place in the Wikipedia namespace. Sincerely, Tfine80 00:17, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Speedy-able Material[edit]

Hi Bratsche, thanks for helping, but Musecast was actually a different article that just happened to have the same same as an earlier AfDed article. The first one seems to have been about museums; today's article was about the band Muse. So it wasn't a db-repost, although I'm certainly not sad to see it go! Melchoir 04:39, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Ah; I've made plenty of AfD nominations, but I didn't know about {{afdx}}. I'll have to put a link to that on WP:AFD. Thanks again, Melchoir 04:54, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Actually, there a small note on afdx under "How to list multiple related pages for deletion" on WP:AFD already. Never mind... Melchoir 04:56, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Deletion of a COTW-nomination[edit]

Hello. I noticed that you speedily deleted Wikipedia:Collaborations of the Week/Oliver Shanti. I find the reason that was provided for it ("oliver shanti article no longer exists") rather dubious. I take it, that you weren't aware of the fact that both stubs and non-existant articles can be nominated for COTW. In an attempt of trying to guarentee that the policy on COTW is followed properly, kindly request an undeletion.SoothingR 21:19, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Was that what it was? I could have sworn that I was the person who deleted the article. I learned something new today. --HappyCamper 00:37, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Your Comment[edit]

If nobody's above the law, why is Jimbo above it? He broke WP:AGF and WP:BITE with Joeyramoney, yet apparently that's ok. I respect your opinion, but i'm putting it back until SPUI tells me otherwise. Karmafist 03:21, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Question[edit]

Who's going to defend you once you do something the cabal disagrees with? And that's the way it almost always happens when a person is put above the rules, I often feel like i'm the last line of defense against that. Please, we Esperanzians should stick together for civility on Wikipedia, something which has not been given to SPUI. Karmafist 03:29, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Your Becauses...[edit]

Because you don't have to think when Jimbo tells you what to do... Karmafist 03:31, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Becauses[edit]

Have you ever heard the old saying "If [x] told you to jump off a bridge, would you?" If Jimbo told you to jump off a bridge, that doesn't mean you should. Just because someone says something doesn't make it the right thing to do, and it especially doesn't mean you should ignore far more important things such as Civility, which has not been extended to SPUI in this case because he's a bit odd. Hell, i'm offended by it too, but i'm far more offended by the way he's been treated. Karmafist 03:37, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Another Esperanzial note...[edit]

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

Stop Your Vandalism[edit]

Please don't vandalise my user page. Vandalism because someone doesn't like the content is still vandalism. Knock it off. I'm not the only one with that code on my user page and it's purely in support of SPUI. It will be removed when SPUI asks me to remove it. If I am blocked, I will just create sockpuppets and continue to make good faith edits to the encyclopedia for the benefit of everyone. Thank you. --Analogdemon (talk) 15:27, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

Last time I checked, you, Sam Korn, UninvitedCompany, Jimbo Wales and ArbCom, combined, do not equal the Wikipedia community. Therefore, removing something from my userpage because one of you find it offensive is vandalism and not consensus of the Wikipedia community. The content will be removed when SPUI asks me to remove it and not one minute sooner. Thank you. --Analogdemon (talk) 23:16, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
I think you should back off here, Bratsche. It isn't even a user box, and doesn't even advocate pedophilia- it merely says that a person has at one time been attracted to underage females (no mention of what jurisdiction this could be, and hence it is meaningless- it could refer to females anywhere between 0 and 18, and perhaps even older). Or do we now have perceived-thoughtcrime rationales to justify unwanted modifications to a user's namespace? --maru (talk) contribs 00:42, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
If I may butt in... IMO, it's not about pedophilia. It's about finding a hot argument and fanning the flames (rather than doing something productive about it), and we shouldn't tolerate that. User pages belong to the the project, too; they shouldn't be used for somethign harmful to it. Mindspillage (spill yours?) 02:11, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
Yes, this is exactly right. Thank you, Mindspillage. Bratschetalk 02:54, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
Well you're both wrong. This is purely about supporting a personal friend. --Analogdemon (talk) 02:55, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
Sorry to butt in. Analogdemon, so you are saying that your just suppporting a personal friend. Well, how does this exactly help out with the project? SWD316 talk to me 03:01, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
That has nothing to do with this discussion. They're referring to the top part of my userpage. What you're referring to is purely harmless humor. --Analogdemon (talk) 03:02, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
It just sorta ties in with what Mindspillage said about fanning the flames (rather than doing something productive about it). I also noticed your comment above that said "If I am blocked, I will just create sockpuppets", which against Wikipedia policy itself. SWD316 talk to me 03:12, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

(Arbitrarily going back to the left) In response to Analogdemon: User pages are to aid in our project here. Apparently, that project is building an encyclopedia. Wikipedia is not your homepage, nor a social site like Myspace. The community, user pages/boxes, and wiki are all means to an end: a free deposit of the world's information. Bratschetalk 03:20, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Obviously the project at hand is building an encyclopedia. But NOBODY's user page is encyclopedic, therefore it cannot be included in the encyclopedia. Using your logic, nobody should have a user page. User pages are meant to be a bit of information about the editor and if I feel like putting humor on my user page, expressing my displeasure with certain elements of this project, or supporting my friends, I will do so. We're done here. I will not discuss this with you further. --Analogdemon (talk) 04:52, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
One could call this a straw man fallacy, since no where did I state that user pages should be encyclopedia. I, along with official Wikipedia policy, say that they belong to the community, not the user, and as such, should reflect our standards. From Wikipedia:User pages: Generally, you should avoid substantial content on your user page that is unrelated to Wikipedia. This is exhausting; I feel really no need to continue here on Wikipedia if trolls such as yourself continue. Bratschetalk 05:03, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

You are too good to be stressed!
Hello, Bratsche. Time for more viola jokes? What do you do with a dead violist? Move them back a desk… I saw your comment at ESP/ALERT: may I disagree with your assessment (there is no reason to continue on Wikipedia if we cannot control simple acts of trolling) there? It is not a task of Wikipedians to "control trolling". Ignore the icebreakers working their way across the ice-floes of Wikipedia. Yes they break stuff up, but it can be repaired, and just look at all the huge expanses of undamaged ice! Also, may I humbly suggest that we should concentrate on doing first things first? Wikipedia is not a place for supporting causes, or righting perceived wrongs, but an online encyclopedia. I happen to agree with you somewhat about the user-box issue above, but I have better things to do with my time here than get involved. Haven't we all? Conspiracy theories notwithstanding, I don't believe the Wiki is in imminent danger of collapse, any more than it was a fortnight ago, or a year ago! However, it will surely collapse if fine Wikipedians like your good self leave because of peripheral minutiae. My advice: drop the issue without a backward glance, and move on. By concentrating on accurate, verifiable article content we surely reduce the impact of insignificant disturbances. --RobertGtalk 11:17, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Karmafist's Fair Election Request[edit]

I have a request of my fellow candidates, and of the voters -- that all candidates give a vote to every other candidate.

It may seem that this request goes against the idea that leadership and potential leadership of our group should be neutral, a precedent that has been followed since the beginning of Esperanza by JCarriker, but I beg to disagree.

For one, mathematically all votes would be cancelled out, but unlike if we stayed silent, we are showing an affirmation of our support for each other.

To me, that's what Esperanza's about. I've had disagreements with many people in Esperanza, but i'll always support them in some form or another as long as I believe as they'll do the same for me -- as long as we're unified in a belief that kindness can cure the ills of Wikipedia as a whole.

Karmafist 04:08, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

IFF[edit]

Half of them do so far, i'll ask again before the election starts. I don't blame you, I don't think any of us should if we all don't, but I think all of us doing so would be pretty Esperanzian. Karmafist 04:04, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

The Suggestion[edit]

Not a problem, that's what leaders do in my opinion, and since my term as advisor hasn't run out yet, i'm still a leader, so just doing my job ;-)

I'm on AIM most of the time, please feel free to send over another IM and perhaps we can discuss ideas on how to get the Cabal and "Anti-Cabal" together, or at least seeing each others' points of views. Ultimately, I think that's the root of all these wheel wars and userbox wars, and ultimately war in general. I'm going to head over to Wikipedia Review in a bit with an idea on how they can be constructive rather than just being angry at Jimbo all the time. Karmafist 04:46, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Template:User-AmE-0[edit]

Please restore Template:User-AmE-0, which was undeleted after a deletion Review and is now currently in debate at Template for Deleation. I'll assume good faith and that you were unaware of this when you deleted Template:User-AmE-0. Thank You. Mike McGregor (Can) 17:18, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

I respectfully disagree that the issue is how many times it's been deleted or what jimbo wants or wether this would contribute to wheel-warring. The last T1 deletion was overturned at DRV, and the tempate is now up for TfD, I would like for users to be able to form informed opinions of this template. this would be greatly facilitated by unprotecting the page and allowing for its recreation while it goes through TfD. should it be shot dead in TfD, so be it. But I Don't beleve this template was ever divisive, polmatic or inflamitory enough to warrent a T1, let alone 7. I was under the impression that T1 was brought in for extream and obvious cases (such as the pedofillia templates), and not for templates as mundane as this. Please allow for TfD to run its course. cheers, Mike McGregor (Can) 18:03, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Concrete Hippo edit history[edit]

I hate to bring this up, but when you merged the info from the now-defunct Concrete Hippo into Walsall, you didn't post the edit history on Talk:Walsall. I'd do it myself, but I'm not an admin on WP and so can't retrieve the history from a deleted article. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 05:24, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

Hello Jeff: Thank you for reminding me of that requirement. The page history totally slipped my mind. I've pasted it at Talk:Walsall/Concrete Hippo. Teaches me to be more careful in the future! Thanks, and cheers, Bratschetalk 03:29, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
Oh, and it's also nice to find another Firefly fan (Browncoat?) on Wikipedia. Did you here about the Serenity (movie) making a profit? Hopefully, we'll be able to see some more episodes in the future. Bratschetalk 03:32, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
Well, according to Browncoat, I'm definitely one (by the second definition, of course). I don't really frequent the fan sites, except to try to find WP-quality reliable sources (and to find an image suitable for printing on a T-shirt). Speaking of the former, do you have a source for the film making a profit? It'd be worth mentioning in the article if we could source it. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 05:01, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Yes, Gryffindor introduced me to Esperanza but I quickly got so busy I haven't been able to check in much between Wiki-ing (I've only been at this for about a month now and already it seems like we've lost our administrator for the next several months) and work. As you could probably tell from my page, I do value a good cup of capuccino but I don't have much of an idea where best to get started in Esperanza. Any recommendations? --Mmounties 21:01, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Just dropping by[edit]

How are you doing today.--Dakota ~ ° 16:58, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Hello[edit]

Have you gotten a chance to be on AOL lately? I've enjoyed our chats, but time has been tight lately and will likely get tighter, for reasons seen at the top of my user page. Oh, and I apologize for not saying it before, but I disagree with the e-mail and IRC options for gaining consensus. Consensus should be centralized and clear as possible, not scattered all over the place seen in different ways by different people. Ok, talk to you later, Karmafist 21:53, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Another Answering Machine Message[edit]

Give me an IM sometime today. I might not respond quickly, but i'd like to talk, I enjoy our conversations and I have some things to discuss. Hopefully, we can better form each others' perceptions of what the other sees and get rid of miscommunication. Also, if you see Johnleemk or Jimbo on IRC, let them know that they can do likewise, and that i'm aiming for 1,000 edits today(before 7 PM EST), so I might not have time to chat until after then. A Tie Would Be Cool[edit]

Thanks for the vote, my friend, and i'm sorry I didn't vote for you earlier -- you just know me, i'm a knucklehead at times :-P If you're on AIM, give me a IM, i'd enjoy a chat while doing this thing, i'm at around 600 edits for today now. Karmafist 19:29, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Thank you[edit]

For the support and the words. Don't be gone too long, too many people are going to miss you.--Dakota ~ ° 01:42, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

A note from the Admin Coaching coordinator[edit]

Hello, coaches. As you can see, there is a significant backlog at the Esperanza Admin Coaching program. Since we do not want users to have to wait forever to get assigned, I'm asking all of you for a status report. If you feel that you are done, that your coachee is not active enough, or that you could handle the extra load from another coachee, please tell me in my talk page as soon as possible. Thanks! Serenity profit[edit]

Speaking of the former, do you have a source for the film making a profit? It'd be worth mentioning in the article if we could source it. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 05:01, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
Here's one from Slice of Sci Fi, and another from Newsarama. Now the first one is a blog, which really isn't too much of a good source, and the second looks a little better. What do you think? Cheers, Bratschetalk 13:35, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

I did some research on your links and their related information in an attempt to track down reliable sources of data:

  • Newsarama: WP-unreliable (Alexa = 5K, but source is discussion board); links to Whedonesque thread and intriguing but irrelevant Slate article
    • HOWEVER, Matt_Fabb, the initial Newsarama poster, included some WP-reliable sources (see below).
  • WHEDONesque: WP-unreliable (Alexa = 25K, but source is discussion group); circular reference to Newsarama; lots of user calculations of unsourced and possibly sourced but anecdotal (sample) data
  • SliceOfSciFi.com: WP-unreliable (Alexa = 223K and source is discussion group); calculations based on Newsrama data and claimed but unsourced VideoBusiness data
  • videobusiness.com WP-reliable (Alexa = 42K); couldn't find sales figures either with site search engine or Google, but direct link included in Newsarama post (see below)
    • Now a spam redirect. ~Amatulić (talk) 19:38, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

My initial review showed mostly circular rererences and lots of opining without bothering to cite specific source material — par for the course of discussion groups. The only set of meaningful sources I found came from the first Newsarama poster:

Other than the first two sources' raw data, virtually everything involves a lot of original research by unidentified folks at WP-unreliable sources, making it hard for a WP editor to evaluate the value of the material except by doing their own original research to double-check.

I got this from about an hour of link tracking and quick-reading, so it's conceivable that there are bits of sourceable information buried or linked to in all the discussion jabber. But this amply demonstrates why it's so important to get reliable sources. These discussion groups and blogs feed off of each other's inadequate sourced and therefore unverifable data, so who knows what wild ideas they might generate? Even when it seems well thought-out, as Matt_Fabb's material does, it can easily disguise conceptual errors (not to mention biases and hidden agendas) that are best left thrashed out by a respectable publication. I certainly hope the premise is true, but it's not WP-worthy if we can't make if adequately verifiable. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 01:31, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

A side note: I really wish these people would learn how to create proper web links. Whether they're raw HTML, discussion-board markup, or wiki external links, the number of links that say useless things like "this link" or "1" or "an interesting post" seem to greatly outweigh meaningfully labelled links. Just one of my pet peeves. (I appreciate your identifying the source names in your links above!) ~ Jeff Q (talk) 01:31, 26 February 2006 (UTC) — reposted 07:17, 26 February 2006 (UTC) after apparent failure of 1st post

My final good-byes[edit]

Hello Bratsche. I came to tell all my friends, yes, that means you, that I am leaving Wikipedia. Thank you for being so kind to me during my stay on Wikipedia. I hope to speak with you again someday. Moe ε 05:51, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Esperanza Elections[edit]

Hey Bratsche! I wish to say thanks for your vote at the Esperanza elections.

I've made my way into the Advisory Committee, so if you ever need any help or have any queries about the stuff we do, please do not hesitate to ask. Thanks again, KnowledgeOfSelf 09:36, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi Bratsche! A note from me too, thanks for your vote! Like KnowledgeOfSelf said, please let us know if there's anything we can do for you! --JoanneB 18:08, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
