As BobTheCornCob (born December 2nd, 1967 in Boston, Massachusetts), I have been a long-term lurker and a more recent contributor to Wikipedia. I am currently working as a police officer for the city of San José, California and have done so for the last 14 years. Prior to that, I attended the University of California, Berkeley where I majored in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I am also a graduate of Bellarmine College Preparatory, a Jesuit high school in San José. Eschewing a career holed up in a lab doing research, yet wanting to pursue a life's work of service to others, I ended up at the San José Police Department instead of the rather obvious alternative -- not mention more lucrative -- career in medicine.

My interests in Wikipedia are as eclectic and wide-ranging as the contributions, albeit minor, that I've made so far. As one would guess, I have a personal interest in police-related subjects and criminal law, particularly as they relate to emerging technology in those fields, as well as the ethics associated with both. Despite the conservative nature of my career, my values tend towards the liberal. An example of this that relates directly to my career is that of drug policy reform.

I also have an avid interest in all things related to computers, both in their designs, as well as in their applications. Computer games, particularly MMORPGs, occupy more of my time than I'd like to admit and along with 8 million other people, I have been a dedicated subscriber to World of Warcraft, or WoW as it is commonly known, since its release. I have great hopes for The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar though since having participated in its beta-testing. While it will likely not make much of a dent in Blizzard's bottom line over the short term, I feel it's likely that I will finally defect from WoW.

At the risk of turning my user page into something resembling a goofy MySpace website, I'll round things out by saying that music, particularly Alternative, Metal, Classic Rock, and Jazz, are central to my life and sense of well-being. I'm also a voracious reader of anything from simple popular fiction to the Great Books of literature.

Lastly, for those goons out there, I do indeed have stairs in my house, so yes, I am protected!
