This RfC is a proposal to modify the language of a section within the WP:Notability guideline that deals with subject-specific notability guidelines (SNGs). Recently, it has been noted that the current language on WP:SNG is not crystal clear, and is ripe for misinterpretation. The specific concept that is unclear is the exact role that SNGs play in determining the notability of a topic.

Recent consensus discussions

Recent discussion on the topic have taken place at WT:N#SNG change, another lengthy discussion on WT:N in May 2020, and an RfC on a closely related topic took place on the Village Pump in 2017.

Options

Below are four options for the section. Which of the four options most closely meets what you think it should say? Further fine tuning/wordsmithing would be possible through normal discussion following the RfC

• Option 1 - current since May 2020
• Option 2 - proposed revision
• Option 3 - alternative proposed revision
• Option 4 - there should be no SNG section (pre-May 2020 status quo)
