Arden[edit]

Hi - I noticed that you added the Arden was built in Balsall Heath, Coventry. There is a Balsall Heath in Birmingham, is there another one in Coventry? Aynuk N. Ayli 08:48, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Its a bit of a mystery. You are correct, there is no Balsall Heath in Coventry unless it's very obscure but three references I have checked all give the address of the Arden Motor Co as Balsall Heath, Coventry. This probably means they are copying the same mistake. I suspect that the address is actually Balsall Common which would be a bit closer to the Arden area (if I can call it that). Links in quotes in John Patrick Kenneally[edit]

You recently reinstated some links in a quotation in the article John Patrick Kenneally. If you read the discussion about this in Talk:John Patrick Kenneally#Links in quotation as well as review the editing history of the article, you will see that this matter has been subject of some debate just a sort while ago, and it was confirmed by authoritative editors dealing with MoS issues (see links in the discussion on the talk page), that such links in a quotation should not occur. I see that your a graduate from the University of Birmingham. It used to be amongst the top 5 in Britain, nowdays it's a dump where the lecturers have to tell their cronies which questions are coming up in the exams just so they can get a decent pass rate. Yes, when I went there (which was well before the current slump in standards in all UK universities), it was reckoned to be quite good. I am older than you seem to think. Can I ask you why you thought it necessary to make such a comment, seeing as it is completely unrelated to the matter which was being discussed, or were you perhaps hoping to make a dig at my educational background?. Sorry, your insults will gain you no ground here, except perhaps to count against you if you repeat them or indulge in them elewhere. In case you wish to complain about the rules, I direct you to the WP:MOS#Quotations and to Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Archive 101#Links in quotations where clear guidance was given. I suggest you accept that, rather than throw out insults when what you think should be done goes against policy and is reversed as has ben done here in the future. Do not distort by logic-chopping. You know full well what you were doing: you were making a general statement about the plunging standards at Birmingham University recently, and then explicitly noting that that I was a graduate, the implication being that I was a recent graduate. Distortion again. You will see that the inclusion had two functions: (a) to allow links to be made, because they are not allowed in the quotation, and (b) to clarify the form of the names as used in the quotes were linked to slightly different forms of the names, which are apparent to English speakers, but which might not be so apparent to people wose primary spoken language is not English. This is meant to be an international encyclopaedia, and from my experience of contributing to paper encyclopaedias, one has to sometimes includes things one thinks of as obvious, because they may not be onvious to other people for particular reasons.
