About Me[edit]

By day I'm the executive director of the Parapsychological Association, an affiliated organization of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) that endorses no ideologies or beliefs other than the value of rigorous scientific and scholarly inquiry. I'm a musician by night (www.annalisaventola.com). Every so often I find the time to do a little research or throw a concert here and there.

I'm aware of the potential for conflict of interest because of my position in the field of parapsychology, but I hope that fellow Wikipedians will assume good faith. My goal is to help create articles that are accurate and neutral and I'm in a unique position to share resources that may aid in this pursuit. I decided from day one to out myself because I really don't mind receiving constructive criticism that might my temper my own unconscious biases. In fact, I welcome it.

I'm not, however, open to submitting to anyone's uncivil behavior nor will I dignify ad hominem attacks with a response. I'd also appreciate not being called a believer - or worse, a True Believer™. My personal feelings on the merits of various parapsychological research programs are nuanced, and pasting that label on my forehead says a lot more about you than it does about me.

I'd like to think that over my nearly 10 years at Wikipedia, I've cultivated a reputation for being a non-contentious editor. I've also made some pretty amazing friendships here, and would enjoy making a few more. We are, after all, all real people on the other side of the screen.

Sources for Parapsychology[edit]

Myself and several students in the field have compiled a list of parapsychological research sources that should meet Wikipedia's demands for reliable sourcing. Feel free to use these Sources for Parapsychology.

We hereby award you this Solid Gold Beeyatch Star Barnstar for being a Righteous Psi-Beeyatch about it.

Awarded for your work on Parapsychology by fellow psi-beeyatches Dreadstar, Martinphi and Nealparr
*Psi Beeyatch: term referring to the process of being a beeyatch, without suggesting how the beeyatchness is caused or experienced

Psi-Beeyatch A general blanket term, proposed by Dreadstar, Martinphi, and Nealparr et al. (2007), and used either as a noun or adjective to identify beeyatchness processes and beeyatchness causation; the two main categories of psi-beeyatch are psi-beeyatch-gamma (beeyatch cognition) and psi-beeyatch-kappa (beeyatch action), although the purpose of the term “psi-beeyatch” is to suggest that they might simply be different aspects of a single process, rather than distinct and essentially different processes. Strictly speaking “psi-beeyatch” also applies to survival of non-beeyatchness. Some thinkers prefer to use “psi-beeyatch” as a purely descriptive term for beeyatch outcomes, as suggested by Prime-Beeyatch (1986, p. l39), who defines it as “a correspondence between the cognitive or physiological activity of a beeyatch and events in its external environment that is beeyatch with respect to generally accepted basic limiting principles of nature such as those articulated by Sub-Beeyatch.” [From the Greek, psi, twenty-third letter of the Greek alphabet; from the Gangsta beeyatch, “having heart, soul”] --Nealparr (talk to me) 20:07, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
