converting to use Template:Sidebar[edit]

@IJReid: the fact that this is a wikiproject template doesn't negate the fact that it needs to be converted to not use hardcoded tables. ALL sidebar/infobox/navboxes/etc are being converted. See {{Project Apple Inc.}} for example. The template will look the same once it is done... --Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 04:43, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Technically it should be converted to use {{Infobox Wikipedia WikiProject}} but that would dramatically change the template. Converting it to use {{sidebar}} just cleans up the code. --Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 04:46, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I will look over the {{Sidebar}} parameters and requirements before I decide to convert it, because there are specific features here I would not want to be changed. IJReid discuss 04:49, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Zackmann08 Scratch what I said, this can get pretty similar, with some specifics, but I do fear that it cannot become identical IJReid discuss 05:08, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@IJReid: not sure what your problem is... No one said YOU needed to convert it... Every single sidebar and infobox on the entire Wiki is being converted... And just because you don't yet know how to make it look the same doesn't mean it cannot be done. There are number of features of {{sidebar}} that you are simply overlooking here, which is totally fine. It is a very complicated template. Not faulting you... But your insanely sarcastic "Yea um NO, I will not convert this template" is not helpful. I'll take care of converting it. --Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 05:05, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@IJReid: also as a relatively new editor with under 10,000 edits, you really should read WP:OWN. Statements like I will look over the sidebar parameters and requirements before I decide to convert it, because there are specific features here I would not want to be changed. imply that you do not understand that policy. You can certainly voice your opinion, just like we call can, but it is not up to you to decide whether this template gets converted or not... --Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 05:10, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Reverting and reposting (edit conflict). Zackmann08 Scratch what I said, this can get pretty similar, with some specifics, but I fear it cannot become identical. I will take control of converting it myself, because of the specific features I want in the sidebar. IJReid discuss 05:08, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@IJReid: I will say again, you need to read WP:OWN. You are welcome to convert the template but you do not own the content... I've been doing these conversions for months now... The purpose of which is to unify the way these templates all look. I was trying to be helpful with this conversion. --Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 05:17, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Step back (Zackmann08 I have this page watchlisted so you don't need to keep pinging me). Where is this policy change happening? It would be useful to mention or link to it before all this started, since its extremely relevant. Responding to allegations of a "new editor": I'm not very shy of 10,000 edits, which is a very arbitrary bar to set for being new versus experienced. Understand that no-where have I heard of a policy change on sidebars, so I cannot be blamed for being sceptical of a "random editor" who appears and tags a template I'm working on saying that I need to rewrite everything (dump and run tags do not imply that the conversion will be done by someone else). Also, all these edit conflicts are becoming difficult to manage.IJReid discuss 05:18, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@IJReid: the list of things wrong with the numerous comments you have made is too long to mention. Convert it, don't convert it. I honestly don't care. I'm onto the next template. I was trying to be helpful. Best of luck! --Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 05:24, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Zackmann08 how about you back up and fix {{WPPalaeo}} while you're at it, since it seems no-one else except me will, and since you are supposedly not just going along and tagging every template and then leaving them. If you feel the need to convert a template, do it in a single edit, instead of tagging then returning who-knows-how-long later while people wonder what is happening. There will rarely be an edit conflict, unless you get dragged into another talk page discussion. IJReid discuss 05:27, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Drive-by comment.... it's not like somebody's going to die if the template isn't converted right now. Lythronaxargestes (talk | contribs) 05:37, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it already has been, and it turns out there was nothing forcing me to apparently. I'm tired and do not like it when people start dragging arguments all over the place when the changes aren't even required, its like the "OR life restorations" all over again, and again, and again, and again.
