Clade or Unranked?[edit]

There are three listed clades on the template where typically, the rest of the templates on Wikipedia use the term (unranked). Is there a difference here or does it matter? A. Z. Colvin • Talk 23:38, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I believe WP:PLANT uses "clade" whereas WP:ANIMAL uses "unranked, but I'm reposting your question at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Plants#Unranked vs. clade since I'm not a botanical editor. Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 23:53, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
See my comment at Template talk:Taxobox#Clade or Unranked? - essentially, it's a quirk of the difference between manual and automatic taxoboxes. But it's correct either way: APG III system clades above order are true clades, but they're not given formal ranks, so they're also "unranked." Perhaps we should keep the discussion in one place?
