Nice box![edit]

I like what you've done here... I was wondering if anyone would object to a color suggestion as I feel a more water like blue may look better. Just an idea. I don't want to stomp on someone's project. :)

Death[edit]

The death of Andy Irons in Nov. 2010 has highlighted that the template does not have a "death_date=" or "death_place=" section. At least 3 editors tried adding the date soon after he died, and the syntax seemed correct,
ie: {{death date and age|2010|11|2|1978|07|24|mf=yes}} giving: November 2, 2010(2010-11-02) (aged 32) here, but no luck on the article page! - 220.101 talk\Contribs 08:18, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This should be fixed. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 07:34, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Are InfoBoxes ever expanded with new name value pairs?[edit]

Howdy, I realize it isn't *super* important, but would something like a "surfer" InfoBox ever be expanded or evolve over time to include religion= and/or political-affiliation= ? I ask because Bethany Hamilton has an "Unstoppable" 2018 documentary in theatres and is highly, vocally Christian. Peace. -Peter aka Vid2vid (talk) 20:38, 15 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

|religion= is generally not allowed in biographical infoboxes, per this 2016 RFC. Aspects of a surfer's biography that are important can always be mentioned and sourced in the body of the article; they don't have to be in an infobox. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:31, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox improvements[edit]

This template has no error checking (i.e. Category:Pages using infobox surfer with unknown parameters), can't be embedded, and can't use other parameters from {{infobox sportsperson}}. It could used being turned into a wrapper like {{infobox sailor}}. Jonesey95, do you feel like tackling this?? MB 00:55, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I added the tracking cat and |child=. If it really needs to be turned into a wrapper, that can be done, but that would require some development and testing time. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:29, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Jonesey95, of the 211 tranclusions, there were almost 50 articles with some kind of error. I didn't find a single one that needed to be a child of a different specialized template (like a dual-sport athlete). There were a bunch (15 -20) that were trying to use basic biography fields (like spouse, children) that would have been available if this was a wrapper for IB sportsperson. Due to the small number, I just embedded those into IB person. So I did make use of |child= and everything is a cleaned-up here. Thanks for the help. {I did make one change to the template to prevent a WD image when embedded). MB 03:50, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
