Edit request[edit]

In order to bring this template inline with other sport bio infoboxes (such as sportsperson and cricketer), I propose adding |honorific_prefix= and |honorific_suffix=. At the moment, on articles such as Sarah Storey, details that should be in these parameters are simply being added to |name= instead. I propose the same formatting as Template:Infobox sportsperson, ie:

| title = {{#ifeq:{{{child|{{{embed|}}}}}}|yes|'''Cycling career'''|{{#if:{{{honorific_prefix|{{{honorific prefix|}}}}}}|<span class="honorific-prefix" style="font-size: 77%; font-weight: normal">{{{honorific_prefix|{{{honorific prefix|}}}}}}</span><br />}}<includeonly><span class="fn">{{If empty|{{{name|}}}|{{PAGENAMEBASE}}}}</span></includeonly>{{#if:{{{honorific_suffix|{{{honorific suffix|}}}}}}|<br /><span class="honorific-suffix" style="font-size: 77%; font-weight: normal">{{{honorific_suffix|{{{honorific suffix|}}}}}}</span>}}}}

Partly done: I removed {{{honorific prefix}}} and {{{honorific suffix}}} because IBs tend to use underscores instead of spaces in parameters. Primefac (talk) 00:49, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request on 8 May 2020[edit]

Just a minor addition request; as certain riders ride multi-disciplines and for multiple teams, a (s) should be added to Current team, Discipline and Role, to fall in line with Amateur team(s) and Professional team(s). An example in point, Gianni Vermeersch. Craig(talk) 19:06, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How common is it to have multiple current teams, disciplines and roles? Because it may not be appropriate to add the cumbersome (s) for the benefit of a handful of articles? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:51, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@MSGJ: Disciplines, certainly so. The recent example that can be utilised is the recent Track Cycling World Championships: 37 medallists (23 men and 14 women) – this does not include any other competitors that took part in each of the 20 events – are also registered with road teams. Cyclo-cross and mountain biking riders also have cross-overs – it's becoming more prominent with riders such as Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert, Tom Pidcock and Jolanda Neff to name four, who have been world champions in recent years. It's no longer a case to suggest that riders are sticking to one discipline. Teams as well such as Alpecin–Fenix are also multi-discipline, and Template:Infobox cycling team reflects this, with Discipline(s).
Roles would be the medium of the three – riders do go into coaching/managerial roles when their careers have finished, but not everyone does.
Current team – of the three, this happens the least. Usually, this only occurs in line with different teams in different disciplines such as the Vermeersch example listed above, or if a rider at the Continental level signs a short-term contract – as a trainee – to a higher level team (ProTeam or WorldTeam). Again, referring to an example, Connor Swift was a rider for Madison Genesis (Continental team) in 2018, and signed such a contract with the WorldTeam Team Dimension Data, but he rode different races with each team: Arctic Race of Norway with Dimension Data and Tour of Britain with Madison Genesis.
As well as that, as mentioned above, the other sections are Amateur team(s) and Professional team(s), so in theory, Current team(s) should apply for uniformity.
Apologies if that's just a ramble, but that's a little expansion on my original request. Craig(talk) 20:43, 11 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see why this couldn't be done, but I do agree that adding an (s) if unnecessary is, well, unnecessary. As a potential compromise, what if there were a |disciplines= param, that would trigger an "s" tacked on to the end of "Discipline"? It wouldn't change any existing templates, but would at least allow for expansion. Primefac (talk) 14:35, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As a minor note, I've tweaked the template to avoid the (s) in the headers, so now the s only appears when there actually are multiple teams. Primefac (talk) 14:39, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Primefac: Yeah, I like both the sound of that, and the looks of the changes to get rid of the (s). Craig(talk) 17:51, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Done If someone uses |disciplines= it will add an s to the label. Primefac (talk) 15:10, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Images when embedded[edit]

Frietjes, this IB needs the code to suppress WD image when embedded so we don't have to use |image= with no value as a kludge. See Louis Caput. Thanks. MB 22:59, 28 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Warning about "atypical values" in some parameters in conjunction with embedded citation templates R and Rp[edit]

See: Template_talk:R#Problems_with_number_conversions
Since the template obviously deals with "normal" reference links (created by <ref name="RefName"/>) attached to parameter values, it might be worth to enhance it to also deal with certain types of and <span> as they are created by {{rp}} and {{r}}.
