Confused template[edit]

This template purports to show elections in the "preserved county of Gwent", which is a concept introduced in 1996. It mixes up three different sets of administrative arrangements and fails badly to show the distinction between the three. The 1974-1996 Monmouth District Council should not be implied to be a continuation of the original 1889 Monmouthshire County Council as they are entirely different in scope, area and name. The template also fails to incorporate anything to do with the Rhymney Valley District Council, despite this being a constituent of the post-1996 Caerphilly Council. The Caerphilly council area was additionally only partly within the "preserved county" between 1996 and 2003.

Essentially, to be of any use this needs to be split into three separate templates: covering 1889-1974, 1974-1996 and 1996 onwards. Ideally it should also be split up further and incorporated into individual council templates. 149.5.89.50 (talk) 12:06, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rhymney Valley is on the {{Mid Glamorgan elections}} template because it was under Mid Glamorgan. Splitting this template is unnecessarily bureaucratic and the current form matches the English templates, which cover the ceremonial counties. Please do not remove the elections again until you have gained consensus to do so. Thanks, Number 57 12:30, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The new layout is better, but this is still a very odd way of organising things. Notwithstanding the fact that the "preserved county of Gwent" did not exist until 1996, you still have Islwyn and Caerphilly, but not Rhymney Valley. If your particular brand of historical revisionism is meant to cover all council elections in an area as redefined in 2003 then you have to include Rhymney Valley DC and even Mid Glamorgan CC for that matter. 149.5.89.50 (talk) 11:57, 14 July 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 154.59.156.17 (talk) [reply]
