This page holds approved nominations that are waiting to appear in the "Did you know" section on the Main Page. Following DYK approval, nominations are processed and moved into a Prep area, and from there, prep sets are promoted to a queue, and then to the main page.

Instructions for nominators[edit]

This page is for those nominations that have already been approved and are waiting to be promoted. If yours has been approved but has not yet been run on the main page, it should either be on this page or will soon be moved here, or already promoted to a Prep area or Queue ahead of an appearance on the main page.

Frequently asked questions[edit]

Backlogged?[edit]

This page is often backlogged. As long as your submission is still on the page, it will stay there until someone promotes it to a preparation area. To alleviate this problem, if the approved page has more than 120 approved hooks, then sets will change twice per day (every 12 hours) instead of once per day (every 24 hours). When the backlog falls below 60 approved nominations set frequency returns to once a day.

Where is my hook?[edit]

If you can't find the nomination you submitted to the nominations page, and it also isn't on this page, in most cases it means your article has been approved and is either in one of the prep areas, has been promoted from prep to a queue, or is on the main page.

If the nominated hook is in none of those places, then the nomination has probably been rejected. Such a rejection usually only occurs if it was at least a couple of weeks old and had unresolved issues for which any discussion had gone stale. If you think your nomination was unfairly rejected, you can query this on the DYK discussion page, but as a general rule such nominations will only be restored in exceptional circumstances.

How to promote an accepted hook[edit]

  • See Wikipedia:Did you know/Preparation areas for full instructions.
  • In one window, open the DYK nomination subpage of the hook you would like to promote.
  • In another window, open the prep set you intend to add the hook to.
  • In the prep set...
    • Paste the hook into the hook area (be sure to not paste in that that)
    • Paste the credit information ({{DYKmake}} and/or {{DYKnom}}) into the credits area.
    • Add an edit summary, e.g., "Promoted [[Jane Fonda]]", preview, and save
  • Back on DYK nomination page...
    • change {{DYKsubpage to {{subst:DYKsubpage
    • change |passed= to |passed=yes
    • Add an edit summary, e.g., "Promoted original hook to Prep 3", preview, and save

How to remove a hook from the prep areas or queue[edit]

  • Edit the prep area or queue where the hook is and remove the hook and the credits associated with it.
  • Go to the hook's nomination subpage (there should have been a link to it in the credits section).
    • View the edit history for that page
    • Go back to the last version before the edit where the hook was promoted, and revert to that version to make the nomination active again.
    • Add a new icon on the nomination subpage to cancel the previous tick and leave a comment after it explaining that the hook was removed from the prep area or queue, and why, so that later reviewers are aware of this issue.
  • Add a transclusion of the template back to the nominations page so that reviewers can see it. It goes under the date that it was first created/expanded/listed as a GA. You may need to add back the day header for that date if it had been removed from the nominations page.
  • If you removed the hook from a queue, it is best to either replace it with another hook from one of the prep areas, or to leave a message at WT:DYK asking someone else to do so.

Do not nominate articles in this section—nominate all articles in the nominations section on the regular nominations page, under the date on which the article was created or moved to mainspace, or the expansion began, or it was listed as a Good Article; be sure to indicate in the nomination any request for a specially timed appearance on the main page.
Note: Articles intended to be held for special occasion dates should be nominated within seven days of creation, start of expansion, or promotion to Good Article status. The nomination should be made between at least one week prior to the occasion date, to allow time for reviews and promotions through the prep and queue sets, but not more than six weeks in advance. The proposed occasion must be deemed sufficiently special by reviewers. The timeline limitations, including the six week maximum, may be waived by consensus, if a request is made at WT:DYK, but requests are not always successful. April Fools' Day hooks are exempted from the timeline limit; see Wikipedia:April Fool's Main Page/Did You Know.
Note for promoters: please be sure to add an "invisible" comment after a hook when you've placed it in prep, noting that it's a special occasion hook and including the date it is supposed to run. This should keep the hook from being moved after promotion, as sometimes happens to hooks when a queue needs a slot filled or a prep set needs to be made more balanced by swapping hooks between preps.

  • I'll review this. Article length and eligibility checks out, and is generally quite presentable. I see no evidence of copyvio. Out of all of these, I think ALT2 is the best; but I don't really see evidence that it "loves lime" beyond its name, and the article is a bit vague about what the "loving" portion of "lime-loving" means. Unfortunately, I think the other two hooks are lengthy and not very interesting to a non-specialist audience. Can you find any sources about why it's a lime-loving lichen? @Generalissima, Hey thanks for reviewing the article. The term "lime-loving" in the common name "Lime-loving Tarpaper Lichen" refers to the preference of Enchylium limosum for habitats with alkaline or calcareous substrates. Limestone, which contains calcium carbonate, is commonly referred to as "lime," hence the name. Lichens like Enchylium limosum thrive in environments where calcium-rich minerals are present, such as limestone or dolomitic rocks. This particular fact is mentioned throughout the sources that are used in the article. Common names given to species are pretty much self-explanatory in most cases, including this one. These sources, although not particularly about the article's subject, will give an idea of why such species of the genera are called "lime-loving." 1, [2].
Sources that mention Enchylium limosum's calcareious habitat and common name are abundant and used throughout the article hence I felt it's redundant to mention them here.

If I approve any hook on this page, it is probably going to be ALT2, although it given that the "lime-loving" bit comes from an alternative name that doesn't include "enchylium limosum", it might be worth proposing a belt-and-braces ALT using the second half of that name. As the creator, I'd prefer ALT 2 as well. And for what's its worth: I can't agree enough with your previous comment relating to WP:SKYISBLUE. I don't think we need a source that mentions the blurb as is. Just because we have polices and we tend to stick to them for obvious good intentions, doesn't mean we need to overcomplicate things with bureaucratic procedures. I said the article has proseline issues, not the hook. Almost the entirety of the Foreign Minister and Later career paragraphs begin exactly the same way. This should be reworded. Hi! I agree it wasn't the clearest way to word it. The Nama Assemblage is often defined chronologically (as the fauna from ~550 to ~539 million years ago, or from the first appearance of Cloudina to the first appearance of Treptichnus), but sometimes on the basis of fauna, with holdover fauna from the previous epochs not being considered part of it, with the chronological definition then called "Terminal Ediacaran biozone". It was mostly to explain why some of the fauna isn't always considered Nama, but that could be further expanded instead in the "Definition" section. I have plans for further expansion of the article (currently in User:Chaotic Enby/sandbox), and I will be happy to reorganize the article and expand it further if needed. I can't see the full context or what source he cites, but I looked it up and ran the numbers for 1989, at which point the number of infections was 20 times larger in the US which also has 6x greater population. That does point to a substantial difference but doesn't support Kirchick's argument. I would prefer to cite epidemiologists for claims about the causes of different prevalence rates.
Stand-alone "defense" and "criticism" is typically integrated into one reception section, maybe put the defense last since the criticism section sums up the overall view.
"In 2015, following the release of the short film When AIDS Was Funny, renewed criticism from progressive media ..." I don't see where the sources discuss progressive media. If they are being cited as examples of progressive media, this paragraph likely falls foul of WP:NOR (and UNDUE).
"However, it is controversial whether Reagan himself could be considered homophobic, or if his personal views on homosexuality affected his AIDS response." part 1 is a false dichotomy, part 2 is unprovable (and I'm not seeing anywhere the opposite argument is made). I chose the current proposed hook because Chang Chen is a veteran actor with over 40 years of experience and has participated in numerous Hollywood projects, but this is his very first time serving as a producer. On the other hand, the cinematographers weren't really big names that would arouse anyone's interest, and dropping out of a film project sounds too common and trivial. While writing the article, I actually thought of two potential hooks (didn't include them initially as I thought the current one was better):

In fact both facts are adjacent in the "Maverick Guide to Scotland" source, with much tighter dating (largest in 1815; cleared between 1814 and 1818) and to avoid problems with WP:SYN the article would benefit from making them adjacent somewhere within it, footnoted to that source. Thanks David. What if the sentence in the Town section said "Before the clearance, it was the largest of 49 townships in Strathnaver"? That would would be consistent with the Maverick Guide guide source and not change up the current before-during-after structure. I could also change the sentence in the Clearance section to say "completely deserted by 1818" to avoid any ambiguity.

I wonder, however, if - since her name doesn't give much clue to where she comes from - some hint at place and/or time might add interest. Overall: I prefer ALT1 to ALT. The hook length is acceptable for both. ALT has a couple of issues: the title of the article does not appear, but more importantly, the idea of the office's powers is not clearly conveyed: it currently says "for over 200 years until 1968 with the power to prevent ANY new play from being performed". However, those powers were somewhat restricted after 1843, so to say ANY new play could be restricted after 1843 is perhaps misleading. @Voorts and Bruxton: I was trying to put the hook in my own words and overdid the paraphrasing. When Semonin says the skeleton was complete I think he meant almost complete so I have reworded the article and the hook. Peale's museum as "the first natural history museum in the United States" is arguable, but would need more work. This argued it was not.

The hook is explicit but unreferenced in the lead, I could add a reference to the Smithsonian article there if that made things clearer. In the body one of the sentences was not immediately followed by a reference, so I fixed that.

@Grnrchst: Yes, but all of that relies on the reader having knowledge of what that movement was and who it involved. For a Wikipedia reader who follows the hook to a topic that they aren't knowledgeable about, none of that is obvious. So I would suggest adding a sentence or phrase later in the body that in which you explicitly use the term Narodnik, with a citation to something that clarifies or at least uses that term.   • The Aquinian is the St. Thomas University (STU)'s student newspaper. Per WP:RSSM as well as general consensus through discussions cited by WP:RSSM, using student media sparingly is generally fine; sometimes it is the only option for certain details/facts, such as in this instance for a general assumption of the subject's age, his connection to the University, and a small detail in the creation process of his book.
I apologize if you find that The Aquinian seems disputed, but because WP:N and WP:GNG has already been established it should be alright using student media for small bits of the article, as this is an instance where better sources couldn't be found. (this only applies to articles whose subject is connected to the University of said student press, of course, in which this case Poitras is). If it helps, STU has a more "official" magazine where Poitras has a small mention here as a journalism professor, and is mentioned here in a third-party provincial newspaper interview with a STU journalism student.

I like ALT1 better: would suggest amending ALT0 to something like "the manuscript ready for the printer to collect..." in both hook and article, as the "at Newman's door" is a little confusing and not really idiomatic for someone coming to visit him - you could even cut it in the hook, as the interesting thing is the 22-hour day, not where he handed the manuscript over. Would also suggest reworking, in the article, Newman had been accused of secretly working to convert people to Catholicism while outwardly professing to be Anglican, and this belief persisted even after his conversion to Catholicism in 1845, as he would hardly be accused of outwardly professing Anglicanism after he had publicly converted to Catholicism.
