Please help determine consensus for how head coaches appear on NBA franchise templates[edit]

There is a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Basketball Association/Archive 23#NBA Coaches/Franchise template to determine how coaches should be displayed on NBA franchise templates such as this one. If you have an opinion on the matter, please join the discussion. There are several options laid out and a discussion of pros and cons is underway. Thanks! Retired numbers[edit]

I changed the retired numbers to additionally show the name of the person whose number was retired, rather than just the jersey number. Navboxes are for helping the reader to navigate between different articles on the same topic and it is quite difficult to do that if we are obfuscating the targets of the links. The reader should not have to click on 44 to find out that it belonged to Dan Issel, for example. I thought I had explained my reasoning in my edit summary but was reverted without a proper explanation: "Restore correct format" tells me that there is a correct format to follow but doesn't tell me where it is specified, how widespread it is or why it is better than my proposed version. Please could someone could elaborate on this. Members of Category:National Football League retired number navigational boxes and Category:Major League Baseball retired number navigational boxes all link on the name of the person, not the jersey number, so I assume the standard being referred to is specific to basketball and/or the NBA (can anyone confirm this?) in which case I would probably need to raise this at the appropriate wikiproject(s). ---Jameboy (talk) 18:32, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jameboy: This format has been used for many years throughout NBA templates. I am not sure if there were any discussions about this, but there is a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Basketball Association/Archive 35#Naismith HOFers in team navboxes where we are trying to change what should or should not be included here so I invite you to raise the question there. WP:NBA handles all the questions about NBA or other related leagues (ABA, BAA, ABL, NBL). – Sabbatino (talk) 09:01, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
