Copyvio[edit]

{{editprotect}}

As per {{Country data Ireland}} and here. The flag is copyrighted and should be replaced with File:Flag placeholder.svg Gnevin (talk) 12:37, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are probably correct, but the image is hosted on Commons. The determination of copyvio must be made there (and the page deleted) before this template is changed, in my opinion. I encourage you to use the copyvio template on Commons (which is a speedy criteria there). In the meantime, I will work on replacing the usage instances of this template. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 18:19, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand the issue here. File:West Indies Cricket Board Flag.svg says it was created by the author and released into public domain. And I don't see the connection with Ireland either ... — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 18:22, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is that the image on Commons is likely a copyvio, despite the claim of the original license from 2006. Therefore, I believe it must be addressed on Commons first; if the image is deleted there, then we must do something here. The connection with Template:Country data Ireland is oblique; we use File:Flag placeholder.svg in place of copyrighted flags in that template. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 18:31, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So you are suggesting that User:Zscout370 was untruthful? Is there any evidence for this? But yes, I agree, it needs to be sorted out over there first and then we can deal with the situation here. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:09, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not untruthful, but perhaps naive (four years ago) about copyright laws. Clearly he created the SVG image himself, but also clearly is that the logo is part of the copyrighted website content linked by Gnevin above. There is no assumption of bad faith here! — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 20:35, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I made the SVG file because there was a PNG file of this flag. I did not use any elements from that above, site, but mostly http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/flags/int@wicb.html. I believe the guy who later fixed my SVG image did use the colors from above. But with the flag being created in 2000, I do not doubt it is copyrighted. However, I think we could use File:Flag of the West Indies Federation (1958–1962).svg instead of just a blank flag. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 02:07, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
But that flag is for a historical state that existed from 1958–1962, so I'm not sure it is the best choice for the contemporary West Indies cricket team. Using no flag would at least be consistent with the treatment we have for other multi-national teams, such as Pacific Islanders rugby union team or Arabian Gulf rugby union team. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 05:04, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, putting in the placeholder now. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 05:34, 28 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Put this flag please - File:West indies cricket board flag.png. It doesn't look good without the flag. Thanks Managerarc (talk) 17:12, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That is also a non-free image, sorry. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 17:26, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Flag[edit]

File:West indies cricket board flag.png

West Indies has a flag. Clyde1998 (talk · contribs)

And the image description page correctly states that it is a non-free image, so it cannot be used here in a template per WP:NFCC. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 15:43, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
...that image is not for the West Indies, it's for the West Indies Cricket team, and has no relationship to the Country template. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 12:14, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the alias value for this template is West Indies Cricket Board, and the template is used almost exclusively for the cricket team (e.g with {{cr}}). But since the flag was determined to be non-free, we are removing those transclusions. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 14:51, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok then, my bad. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 16:51, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please change the flag

To what? Have you read the section directly above this one? (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 15:37, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit protected}} template. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:07, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

{{edit protected}} Country flag is missing for West Indies. Use it from general wiki page for West Indies country. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/a8/West_Indies_Cricket_Cap_Insignia.svg/200px-West_Indies_Cricket_Cap_Insignia.svg.png

no Declined File:West Indies Cricket Cap Insignia.svg is a non-free image and cannot be transcluded by this template per WP:Non-free content criteria policy. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 06:14, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Flag[edit]

Oh how I hate the copyright laws or whatever they're called. Why not just have a maroon flag placeholder like the {{Cricket Aus state flag|Qld}} Queensland flag?

Flag for West Indies cricket that is in the Public domain[edit]

The SVG for the pre 1999 West Indies flag, which is in the public domain, has been created. The use of this would result in a flag icon that looks like this: . I think that, as per the points made here, this would be acceptable to use. From what I have read in relation to the proposal, there appears to be no objection to the use of the flag (only objections to use of the current flag); this is public domain, there appear to be no legal or copyright issues. Therefore, I propose that we should go ahead and use this. Could this please be implemented by someone who has the ability to do so.Kwib (talk) 14:07, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request: add West Indies Federation flag to the template[edit]

This template has been used on the page 2018 Roller Derby World Cup for representing Team West Indies Roller Derby. The West Indies Roller Derby uses the  West Indies Federation flag to represent themselves. I think the best solution would be to add the West Indies Federation flag as a variant to this template. --Jhattara (Talk · Contrib) 15:38, 7 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Primefac (talk) 15:39, 8 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I couldn't find better sources than videos taken from the venue. Here the flag is seen hanging next to those of some other participating nations [1]. Near the end of this video the flag is seen during the parade of nations with flags of other participating nations, next to the Portuguese flag [2]. --Jhattara (Talk · Contrib) 18:54, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
We should probably add it as an option, since we have proof of use. Whether it's appropriate to use it in a particular instance would need more sourcing about that particular thing (team, etc.).  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  05:19, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Update alias[edit]

The West Indies Cricket Board renamed themselves Cricket West Indies in May 2017. My understanding is that the alias should therefore be updated to Cricket West Indies. Joseph2302 (talk) 11:51, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Joseph2302: I am here to ask for the same as well. Clog Wolf Howl 14:12, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Change "West Indies Cricket Board" to "Cricket West Indies". The WICB changed its name to CWI back in 2017. Clog Wolf Howl 12:20, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
