Other settlements[edit]

To include other types of settlements please create new templates for every district for itself, do not complicate the current template with an unlimited number of towns, villages or even farms.--Zyzzzzzy (talk) 18:44, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've temporarily reverted your edits until this could be discussed further since we're using the template to link to all of the recently-created articles. What's being complicated? The template is still organized by district and now it has been broadened to include all the major towns (not just nahiya centers) and sizable or smaller historic villages. See Template:Homs Governorate, Template:Latakia Governorate. This project is not complete yet, eventually all the districts and all the templates will be filled out. I don't really see a point in having a template just for Aleppo Goverorate's administrative divisions and another template(s) for each nahiya. However, this could be a futute option which we could use for all Syrian locality articles. We should invite members of WikiProject Syria to join this discussion. --Al Ameer son (talk) 19:58, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In order to make a unified standard for all templates of Syrian Governorates, I recommend to organize all templates on the scale of districts and sub-districts only. Try not to turn the templates into a bulk of names with pages not yet created or settlements that are not categorized as regional or district centres. I think districts and sub-districts are the correct standards of organizing the all templates of the Syrian governorates.--Zyzzzzzy (talk) 06:39, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted you again, please discuss it here first. The changes are being made to all Syrian governorate templates, to enlist all the main localities. See Template:Rif Dimashq Governorate and Template:Al-Suwayda Governorate. Having the red links helps article's get created, and gives a reference on what needs to be done. The expansion is being done as part of a campaign to expand article on local settlements in Syria. You're welcome to help. Yazan (talk) 06:43, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Yazan, I am not going to revert anymore, but don't you find that the small settlements should be included in their own district templates? It would be better to keep the templates of the governorates on the base of the official administrative divisions, because if we are going to include every possible settlement here, there will be no limits for the names.--Zyzzzzzy (talk) 06:49, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's not every possible settlement, we are starting articles for notable settlements (either large enough, 2000+ inhabitants, or with a notable history). I understand that the templates for Rif Dimashq and Aleppo will become bulky, but they will serve as a central hub for all localities in the governorate. I would suggest a compromise for these two templates though, we make a district sections expandable, and hidden by default except for the relative one. Does that work?
I honestly think that creating a separate template for each district (all 63 of them) is stretching it a bit. Yazan (talk) 06:56, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You can check an example of how that would look like here: User:Zozo2kx/Template:Temp Yazan (talk) 07:08, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Nice job. Better if we type the district and sub-district centres in bold or italics in order to differenciate them form other ordinary settlements.--Zyzzzzzy (talk) 07:13, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Glad you like it! Yes, we can do that. I was actually thinking of something along these lines. Now the district capital is always first and bolded. We can make the district capital (first+bolded+italic) and the sub-district capitals (bolded). What do you think? Yazan (talk) 07:31, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Would be great! The best format to organize a template! Let's implement this on all governorates.--Zyzzzzzy (talk) 07:41, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Will start updating the Aleppo template for now (we need to pass a parameter to expand a sub-section). But let's wait for Ameer's input on this. We could either use this kind of template for all governorates, or just for ones with bulky navboxes (Aleppo, Rif Dimashq). Yazan (talk) 07:44, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The changes look good, not sure if we need to implement this across the board, but certainly with Aleppo, Rif Dimashq and probably Template:Homs Governorate as well which has not been filled properly yet. --Al Ameer son (talk) 17:08, 4 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
