Playoff team designation[edit]

When I saw the extra line in the standings, I immediately wanted to remove it because I thought it was mistakenly added. Then I saw the note about playoff teams. Instead of the line, would a color change for the top 8 work/look better to separate the current top 8 from the others? I know each team's season page highlights their current ranking, but a different color can be used for the other seven teams. I'm not sure how the "self-highlighting" green team distinction would work if another color is already designated for that row, and I don't know the color codes to try it out. I think there is room for improvement because that current line look out of place. Thanks. --Mtjaws (talk) 16:13, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That might be a better way to do it. I only added the little "break line" because I was afraid I'd mess things up if I tried to do any more. :) Skudrafan1 (talk) 17:26, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the break is better than color, because when editing standings, the colors would have to be removed from dropping teams and added to rising teams. Grsz11 (talk) 18:10, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever the consensus is, whenever I update colors, lines, etc for me is a piece of cake, but whatever method used would have to be easy for other editors to modify. With these standings transcluded onto the team season pages, are the colors ok? Colors, lines, any other idea? I am working third tonight so I have to get some sleep, but will be back on here tomorrow evening and will see what has been come up with. --Pparazorback (talk) 23:30, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Personal opinion, I do not like the coloring, especially when the standings are transcluded onto a team season page with the darker blue, lighter blue, and green. It does not look right. So far, the subtle line looks a little better. --Pparazorback (talk) 00:02, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Neither do I. I didnt even think about the green when I did it. No problems though, but is there a way to make a darker line? Grsz11 (talk) 03:18, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here are some ideas I threw together, no sense putting them out in article space so I have them in my userspace. Check out User:Pparazorback/Sandbox for some examples. Feel free to experiment in my userspace other ideas --Pparazorback (talk) 04:08, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I liked the first example the most, with the gray line being thicker, but I think it could help distinguish between the top 8 and bottom 8 if it was made darker. I'm not sure how to do that though, if it's just as simple as a bg code, or something else. Tampabay721 (talk) 19:25, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good work, folks. I quite like the grey bar and it makes it look a lot cleaner. Since a "division leader" label is included, should a "Top 8 teams make the playoffs" explanation be included too? It would explain why there are two sections to the standings. Thoughts? --Mtjaws (talk) 08:29, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
