Rogers Covey-Crump

5x expanded by Storye book (talk) and Thoughtfortheday (talk). Nominated by Storye book (talk) at 11:54, 7 August 2022 (UTC).

Interesting substantial article on a great tenor, on mostly fine sources, no copyvio obvious. I think the first hook is a bit bland, - too many start like that. I believe that in the article, it's no lead material, same for his relatives. In the article and the hook, I changed to the more precise Evangelist (Bach). Please do me a favour and don't use Bach Cantatas biography as reference, better as external links. Please find from where it's copied, and use that. The site is fine for recordings, but the bios are often dated. (I remember several occasions of telling Mr. Arjeh that a singer has died.) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:03, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
  • Thank you, Gerda. I agree that ALT0 is boring. I really wanted to use the joke about the Hilliard Ensemble suits looking like car salesmen or undertakers, but I didn't because maybe that is about the whole Hilliard Ensemble group, and not Covey-Crump alone. But I can do a hook about that if you want ("... that when Rogers Covey-Crump was a member of the Hilliard Ensemble, they performed in suits which were said to resemble undertakers' attire?" or whatever). I have tried to get a free-use image of the Hilliard Ensemble suits (and yes they really did look like undertakers) but I could not get any free image of any kind for the article.
  • On this occasion, I think the Bach Cantatas source may be OK. Covey-Crump is definitely still alive. He was born in 1944, and in 2009 when that source was last updated he would have been around 65 years old - that was the standard retirement age for British men of his age, in 2009. So although he has continued work at a gentler pace since then, I have found and used other sources for that later work. So I think we are alright this time, with that source. I have checked all other available sources as far as I can (online, British Newspaper Archive, biographical dictionaries, Who's Who, recent newspapers, etc.) to fill in any gaps, and I have not found any errors for this tenor in Bach Cantatas. Where other sources have the same information as Bach Cantatas, or have overlaps, I have included both citations where appropriate. Storye book (talk) 16:35, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
Thank you. Perhaps you could make a hook about him being a member of the Hilliard Ensemble (which I trust readers now better than Bach's Passions), and the Evangelist. I like broad range, even in hooks. The outfit wouldn't impress me that much ;) - Francis Schonken is banned, but he was behind saying BCW is not a RS. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:42, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
More wishes for the article: mention Hilliard before mentioning its closure, and break up the Evangelist sentence which has two things in brackets, and "which" twice, - too elaborate ;) --
(had an edit conflict with the ping - I do run a watchlist ;) ) Thank you! I prefer ALT3, as mentioning this "high tenor" specialty, but don't need "one of the", - how is this?
ALT3a: ... that Rogers Covey-Crump, once the high tenor of the Hilliard Ensemble, is known as a leading Evangelist in Bach's Passions?
ready for me, ALT3 and ALT3a preferred, but ALT1 is also approved in case we need a short one. Offline sources accepted AGF.--Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:24, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, Gerda. I have struck ALT3 because I agree with your comment, but you are welcome to un-strike it if you wish. Storye book (talk) 17:37, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
