  • Hook is interesting and difficult to verify. This search of the GN Archive actually does seem to confirm that the counter-intuitively titled "Pete Townshend recalls school `nightmare'" article does contain the relevant fact. Full details about the promotional stunt can probably be accepted in good faith.
  • "Failure to chart" doesn't seem notable if not discussed by secondary sources.
  • The "Terminated EP" section seems like original research. Is there a secondary source on this? Apocryphal EP release speculation is sort of a murky area... particularly for a band that deliberately released fake promotional tapes! ;-) groupuscule (talk) 16:32, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
  • i managed to find the whole tribune article here (see the second page).
  • yes, the EP was a bit of a grey area...there's not a lot of information about the single readily available (perhaps due to its limited release), so i might have taken a bit of undue liberty with that section. i'm not the most seasoned wikipedian, so the line between original research and verifiable content is still a little blurry to me. i can't find any more sources that discuss the EP, although i think it's important to note that those b-sides were intended for release with "purple toupee", as they were unreleased elsewhere until they were included on Miscellaneous T. however, if it's more appropriate to omit the section then i wouldn't really see any issue. ~ Boomur [talk] 17:52, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
  • Thank you for getting involved at Wikipedia and respecting its quaint local customs. Having done a little more snooping on the topic, it seems clear that the Purple Toupee EP does exist as a culturally recognizable item. This article, for example, refers to it pretty casually and identifies "Hey, Mr. DJ" as "from" it. It's borderline but I think we can keep the section on "Terminated EP" unless there's someone who has an actual reason to dispute its reality. It would still be good if you could tone down some of the "original research" in the article. The iTunes link (and classification factoid), the billboard chart, and the EP ad can all stay on the page but should probably move to the "External links" section. groupuscule (talk) 18:31, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
