Macedonia (ancient kingdom)[edit]

Improved to Good Article status by PericlesofAthens (talk). Self-nominated at 23:25, 20 February 2017 (UTC).

  • Promoted to GA status on 20 March. Definitely long enough at 111,000 characters! Will you be going for FA-status at some point? The article has been mentioned in a couple of DYKs in the past (Antigonid–Nabataean confrontations and (Philippeioi), but has not had a DYK of its own. I'm assuming that policy issues were handled with the GA review. Hook facts are supported by refs in the article. The length of the first hook is OK, but at 213 characters ALT1 is too long. @PericlesofAthens: do you want to trim it a little, or shall we go with the first one? Also, is the picture intended to accompany either hook, or just ALT1? And lastly, I think a QPQ review is needed (or have you nominated less than 5 of your articles for DYK?) Thanks. @Mike Peel: thanks for taking the time to review this! For starters, I will definitely go for FA status, but before I do that I'll trim the enormous "History" section and shift a lot of its material over to a new history sub-article using Wikipedia:summary style. As for ALT1, perhaps a new hook could read like this instead: "...that Alexander the Great, King of Macedon, besieged the Illyrians at Pelion (in modern Albania) in 335 BC, a year before waging war against the Achaemenid Empire?" Also, the image of the Stag Hunt Mosaic is more aligned with ALT1 since it specifically mentions Alexander the Great, although it could certainly be used for the first hook, by virtue of simply being an artwork of the Macedonian kingdom. It's a shame I don't have an image that is directly related to the Roman conquest of Macedonia in 168 BC. Oh well. As for nominating articles of mine for DYK status, I honestly can't remember any of them previous to the most recent one, a small article I created on the Capitoline Brutus. That was back in August of 2016. I haven't been active on Wikipedia in years, though; it was only since the summer that I started editing it again in earnest. I've been in semi-retirement from Wiki since about the spring of 2011. Pericles of AthensTalk 02:34, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
Good to go with either the original or ALT2 hooks. QPQ isn't needed. Welcome back from semi-retirement, and enjoy the process of getting the article to FA! Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 23:10, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks! I look forward to that as well. All the best. Pericles of AthensTalk 23:45, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
