François Bott[edit]

Created by LouisAlain (talk). Nominated by Gerda Arendt (talk) at 16:49, 3 March 2017 (UTC).

  • The article was new enough at time of nomination and is just long enough (1774 bytes according to prosesize.js). I tweaked the hook a little for grammar and clarity. The hook fact is not cited in the article (that I could see), and entire paragraphs are uncited. No obvious problems with copyvios or close paraphrasing. QPQ is done. If the hook can be substantiated with references (along with the rest of the article) I think we're good to go, although it's a little mundane. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mackensen (talkcontribs) 18:54, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for looking. I hope LouisAlain can help. I guess it's better to ask the author about references of a translated article, - my French as marginal ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:23, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
  • It has been over three weeks with no action taken on the referencing issue; indeed, the article has been templated regarding its sourcing and cannot be promoted to the main page in that state. Something needs to be done soon. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:27, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
Both author and I had RL troubles, sorry. Will look but not immediately. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:23, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
I did now what I could, which isn't much because my French is basic. I found two book sources which I passed to three French-speaking colleagues, because I can't even say if they are RS. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:50, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
ALT1: ... that François Bott, for a long time head of Le Monde's book section, turned to writing novels and essays, for example the award-winning Une minute d'absence? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:59, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
The article has improved, but there's still an entire uncited paragraph. I added the original refimprove tag, and I'm not comfortable taking it off. That paragraph starts with an ungrammatical clause as well ("A member of the jury of the prize Roger Vailland..."). Mackensen (talk) 15:37, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
How about dropping that paragraph (even though it has been part of the French article for a long time)? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:53, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
Can someone who speaks French please check out [1], [2], [3], [4]?? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:20, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
I believe removing that paragraph would bring the article under the minimum length. My French isn't good enough to assess source quality. Mackensen (talk) 16:59, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: I checked the sources, the first two are schedules for events concerning Roger Vailland, the first one confirms that he was "A member of the jury of the Roger Vailland prize", the only mention of him in the second one is that he held a "table ronde" (discussion) about "L’esprit de conquête" and some works by Vailland. The last two are short biographies - I can help translate if you need it but I'm sure you can get the relevant information out of google translate without me having to check it manually. 69.165.196.103 (talk) 21:51, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
  • With new references, only one paragraph is unsourced. I think, if no references found, removing it wont hamper the length eligibility. - Vivvt (Talk) 17:29, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
  • The article is currently 1748 prose characters according to DYKcheck. The paragraph with the "citation needed" template is 169 prose characters, which would leave 1579 prose characters, above the minimum 1500 required. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:16, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
  • @BlueMoonset: Also, is it a mandate to use Citation template for references. The article does not use it fully. I introduced it for some of them. If yes, then that may need some clean up. - Vivvt (Talk) 19:30, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Vivvt, while DYK does not allow references that consist of bare URLs, they may be in formats that do not use the cite or citation templates or Harvard refs. What's there meets DYK minimums (assuming it's accurate, which I did not check), though more information is always helpful. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:39, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Gerda Arendt, last call to do something to make the article meet DYK requirements, either by deleting the unsourced paragraph or by adding a source to it. One or the other needs to be done right away; it's been over two weeks. Thank you. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:57, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
I gave that ... paragraph four citations. Quote of the day: When patience ends endurance begins. - Help with a deletion discussion for a university appreciated. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:18, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

for the first hook, though ALT1 is fine too. Article is just above the 1500 character mark; other stuff has been checked already and is fine. BlueMoonset, let's roll. Dr Aaij (talk) 02:17, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

  • Actually, Dr Aaij, after your most recent edits, the article has 1483 prose characters according to DYKcheck, the gold standard in determining article size for DYK, and does not currently qualify. I'm also not sure about the first hook: as it's worded, the novels and essays would seem to be about Vailland, when there's no evidence that the novels were about the man, and I rather doubt they were. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:52, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
    • I counted 1519. I'll find something to add, and then you can find another reviewer. I'll tweak the hook as well. Dr Aaij (talk) 02:55, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
  • BlueMoonset, it's longer (long enough), there's a new hook that has a bit more excitement than the old one. Find a reviewer for an easy tick. Dr Aaij (talk) 03:39, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
  • New reviewer needed to check ALT2 and also to recheck the article, which has a fair amount of new material since the last check. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:15, 6 May 2017 (UTC)
- Length, Date, QPQ, and Earwigs check. Foreign language refs accepted AGF (automatic translation appears to check). I tweaked the tone a bit, but ALT 2 approved Mifter Public (talk) 22:03, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
