Bei Bei[edit]

  • ... that Bei Bei weighs 4 pounds (1.8 kg) and has an older sister named Bao Bao?
  • ALT1 ... that Bei Bei could have been named Ping Ping, and has a sister named Bao Bao?
  • ALT2 ... that Bei Bei will emigrate at the age of 4?

  • (just) Long enough, and sufficiently well written. Sources check out. I have problems with the hook though... I believe pandas grow very fast and the weight seems not a very stable parameter. Proposed ALT1 and 2... — Preceding unsigned comment added by L.tak (talkcontribs)
That's a good point. He gained a pound in just the last week, so that's probably not a good thing to include. (I mainly did it to make the hook "cute".) So I'll strike out the original hook. ALT1 would be fine. I don't care as much for ALT2. Thanks for the review and the suggestions! MelanieN (talk) 23:29, 1 October 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your input, User:LlywelynII. I was actually trying to AVOID context; it's not uncommon at DYK to have an element of mystery in the hook so that people will click on it. But I see your point about the names; listing all three names could make it seem as if we are laughing at them. How about something like this: --MelanieN (talk) 00:50, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
  • ALT4: ... that baby panda Bei Bei was officially given his name by the first ladies of both the United States and China? (links to the first ladies optional)
You're quite welcome. ALT4 is sourced but I don't think you need the caveat "officially"; my understanding from scanning the article and sources is the pair did in fact chose the name from 2 (or more?) options. — LlywelynII 06:03, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
You are right, User:LlywelynII, they chose the name from 2 options, as well as announced it, so I will delete "officially". What do you think about linking to the first ladies? I'll list that as ALT5 and the promoter can choose. MelanieN (talk) 15:24, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
L.taaaaaaaak... — LlywelynII 15:28, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
Wow, racist, I have to recover from that. I don't even know which race in that sentence one was aiming at and thought we were just using sources and making use of alliteration based on the facts from the article. I am ok with any of the suggestions, but out of this discussion L.tak (talk) 20:02, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
Haodi~~. On it. — LlywelynII 00:37, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
  • Timely submission; long enough (1800 elig. char.); falls within policy, including WP:PRIMARYTOPIC at the moment, with earwig finding no copyvio apart from direct quotes; ALT5 is accurate, neutral, and cited. Added some clarifying links and redid the countries in alpha order per policy on the diplomatic pages; bolded the article name. G2G. — LlywelynII 00:54, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
