B4 (classification)[edit]

  • ... that blind B4 golfers get a handicap of around 28?

  • - within the past five days, the article has been created (sandbox → mainspace). The prose portion is at least 1500 characters. Article is within policy. Hook is within requirement, nice and short, cited. QPQ legit. No images to worry about. -- Cheers, Riley Huntley 22:49, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
  • This hook has multiple issues. First, it seems to apply only to Scottish golfers: the international federation (IBGA) does not offer the B4 category or its handicaps, nor does the USBGA (the Australia individual handicaps list only gives B1, B2, and B3, so it's unlikely they offer it either). Second, the 28 number is the maximum handicap (not an automatic handicap) for men, with the handicap for women "slightly higher". Actual handicaps will be all over the map, but with a ceiling. It also isn't "around 28" in the source, it's 28. Third, these are not blind golfers in the way a hook reader would understand matters: as the Scottish site makes clear, a B4 is "normally a partially sighted person". So the hook is misleading in that way, too. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:31, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
In short, the hook is incorrect: it's male Scottish golfers that get a [maximum] handicap of [exactly] 28; you might want your hook to allow for women as well, or you might want to pick another B4 sport to highlight. As it stands now, it's not ready for the main page. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:31, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
  • ALT1: ... that Scottish blind B4 male golfers get a maximum handicap of 28? Thine Antique Pen (talk) 15:48, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Still not sure about "blind" (are they legally blind? they might be, but it wasn't clear from the one B4 source), and the article will have to be fixed per above before the review can continue. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:35, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Reminder: the article still needs fixing. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:14, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Have made the fix to the article, since the authors seem disinclined to correct the error. If golf is being used for the hook, more context in the article would be useful: is there B4 golf anywhere other than Scotland? (I didn't see it when I checked sources.) New reviewer needed, one who has not yet reviewed the article. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:31, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
  • This article was moved into mainspace on 21st October. It is long enough and adequately sourced. I suggest this hook: - Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:48, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
  • ALT2 ... that B4 is a classification for people with visual impairments and is used in sports including sailing, bowls, swimming and cycling?
  • Hook ALT2 is in the article, cited by 4 refs that check out the facts, and is short enough. Additionally spot checks failed to find plagiarism. Good to go. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:38, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
