Ethnicity vs Notability[edit]

This article is here because Abdi Yusuf Hasan is a Kenyan politician, not because he is of Somali ethnicity. While the article should acknowledge this ethnicity, priority should be given to the fact that he is a member of parliament of Kenya - such as is the case with John Godson, Obama and Philipp Rösler. No, this article is here because Abdi Yusuf Hassan is a notable personage. He was the Director of IRIN well before entering Kenyan politics in 2007. Middayexpress (talk) 16:24, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

And he was director of IRIN not as a Somali, but as a citizen of a country that subscribes to IRIN.

Actually, countries don't subscribe to IRIN; it's a UN news organization. The fact that Abdi is the first Somali Director of IRIN and now the first Somali to be elected a member of parliament in the Nairobi area makes his ethnicity all the more relevant to his notability.
