Ethnicity[edit]

I've put back the part comparing Yugoslav nation with German nation, because it was a good one. Mike.

Why are images being deleted? Popovic, Tanjevic, Bregovic, Dragojevic etc. declared themselves as ethnic Yugoslavs. Djokovic and Ibisevic did not. Please, respect their self-identification. -Aca Srbin (talk) 14:05, 16 November 2015 (UCT)

Who put Djokovic and Ibisevic on this list ? Where is the source that they are Yugoslavs ? This is pure vandalism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FloydBG (talkcontribs) 19:40, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment I deem the gallery unreliable and confusing. It should be removed until concensus over inclusion. One should not mix former Yugoslavs, self-declared Yugoslavs, and individuals in post-Yugoslav state not declaring as Yugoslavs. @Tuvixer: Why are you pushing this?--Zoupan 09:29, 8 March 2016 (UTC) Blocked sock:Ajdebre.[reply]
The only person who is pushing something is you. Unexplained edits will not work. Now start a discussion and when it is resolved changes can be made, or it will stay the same. But please don't engage in a edit war, please. Tnx --Tuvixer (talk) 09:46, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I clearly did explain it. You should slow down and use common sense.--Zoupan 11:27, 9 March 2016 (UTC) Blocked sock:Ajdebre.[reply]

I agree with Zoupan. Plus we should comply with WP:NOETHNICGALLERIES. 23 editor (talk) 15:32, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment Removed the gallery. Not just those listed were without source, strangely including Nikola Karabatić, the gallery included those who lived prior Yugoslavia was formed, who did not declare as Yugoslavs, mixing South Slavs with Yugoslavs, without clear viewpoint what Yugoslav mean - ethnicity, nationality, geo-linguistical group of Slavs... Any gallery inclusion (as well list), need serious neutral discussion, consensus.--Crovata (talk) 18:22, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Organisations[edit]

It states that the Yugoslavs in Croatia have several organisations but the figure for declared Jugoslaveni in 2011 was just 331; this is hardly a figure than can have multiple organisations. It is highly probable that those organisations will contain a chunk of the wider Croat (and Serb) population who support its causes. After all, it is not uncommon for one to consider himself Yugoslav in addition to Serb/Croat/Slovene and others; in this case he won't declare himself Yugoslav but can still support its ideologies such as "various tribes of one blood". --OJ (talk) 08:21, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It is currently being proposed that Category:Slavic countries and territories be deleted. This article is related to that category. The relevant discussion is located at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2020 January 8#Countries and territories by language family. The discussion would benefit from input from editors with a knowledge of and interest in Yugoslavs. Krakkos (talk) 11:12, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nikola Tesla, Yugoslav[edit]

The content identifying Nikola Tesla as a notable Yugoslav has been erased twice. Both times, the content has been erased on the basis of not having a proper source. The source that identifies Tesla as a Yugoslav is a very well known 1936 Telegram from Tesla himself to Vlatkco Macek, celebratingboth his Serb and Croat heritage and hailing all Yugoslavs. The Telegram, a copy of which is preserved in the Tehnički muzej in Zagreb. If there is a problem with sourcing a Wikipedia image of such a Telegram,

I will add a more unambiguous source, quoted in other wikipedia articles such as the Peter II Wikipedia article. Please, do not erase the reference to Tesla now that it is properly sourced. A source problem such as this one is more a formal mistake, which does not affect the content. In any case a new source should have been found and added, as I have, before simply erasing. Jasandia (talk) 12:52, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That is not the context of the 1936 telegram. I disagree with this viewpoint. Sadkσ (talk is cheap) 11:51, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In any case, it is not the only source. The famous Tesla Universe quote, which was valid in the Peter II Wikipedia article is referencing the diaries / memoir of the King itself "A King's heritage?... and that one is unequivocal. I know is a delicate topic, given that both Serbs and Croats have claims over Tesla's procedence, buts let's try to keep focus on the fact: at least two sources have Tesla hailing the Yugoslavs and its heritage. Jasandia (talk) 13:02, 10 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Tesla Universe is not a reliable source. Wikipedia can't be used to cite itself, as you have done here. Linking an image hosted by en.wiki and passing it of as a reference is original research. Moreover, the telegram was most likely written by one of Tesla's assistants and not Tesla himself, but even if it was, the phrase "long live all Yugoslavs" does not indicate that Tesla identified himself as ethnically Yugoslav. Amanuensis Balkanicus (talk) 19:18, 11 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Tesla did not write the telegram? You are not a source and cannot question official evidence. As far as we know and the museum points out, Tesla did write that. Do not speculate... We have to be impartial. These same source is used in other articles such as the one I mentioned of the former Yugoslav King. I also referenced his memoirs, to which you do not even argue... Jasandia (talk) 12:52, 14 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So user Jasandia has provided evidence that Nikola Tesla said and I quote "I am proud to be a Serbian and a Yugoslav" and he provided evidence of Tesla saying that he is "both proud of his Serbian kin/people and his Croatian homeland, long live all Yugoslavs - signed Nikola Tesla". Is there anything more to prove. Just by a quick google search I have found this source stating: "Tesla was a patriotic Yugoslav-American" This is all quite enough for the inclusion. --Tuvixer (talk) 10:42, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Where exactly did the user "prove" that Tesla said "I am proud to be a Serbian and a Yugoslav"? I only see the oft-cited "Serbian people, Croatian homeland" telegram which contains no reference to Tesla identifying as a Yugoslav. Even if the telegram did contain such a statement, it isn't a secondary source and referencing it is original research. Both of you should know better. Since we're on this topic, the whole list is pointless and inaccurate. For example, Tito ethnically identified as a Croat despite being of mixed Croat-Slovene extraction.
