Order change[edit]

The Paleobiology Database ([1]) lists Xiphactinus under the order Pachycormiformes. Because that database is edited by university professors I think it's right to change the order.Jerkov 20:09, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oceans of Kansas site self-published source?[edit]

The self-published source tag was placed sometime ago (2011?) without explanation.

The author of the website and Oceans of Kansas (book), Mike Everhart, is the Adjunct Curator of Paleontology at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History and past President of the Kansas Academy of Science. It is not much of a stretch to consider him expert on the fauna of the Smoky Hill Chalk, so I added that status to the tag.

Is the criticism the fact that the curator published the cited website?

Is the criticism the (presumptive) fact that the curator placed the citation of his own work in the page? That is, did the tag's OP have any knowledge whether User:Tylo[saurus]mike was Mike Everhart? He might be, given his field. I could ask Mike Everhart.

Would the tag be resolved by a visit to the library to get the page number from the book for the citations (citing the book rather than the website)?
