XETV's original sign-on date in 1953

I edited the information on XETV-TV's 1953 sign-on date from January 5 to April 29, with two references from San Diego media blogs about the station's sixtieth anniversary plans for 2013. XETV's own site states it signed on the air in April rather than January of 1953. Unless there are sources that can verify the January 5 sign-on date, I believe the April date is the correct one. January 5 may actually be the date the Azcarraga family received the license from Mexico's Secretariat of Communications and Transportation to build and sign on the station.

Update to information on Tijuana's transition to digital TV

I updated the section "Analog-to-digital Conversion" to include information from the Spanish-language telecommunications blog Telecomplejidades about the Tijuana metropolitan area's transition from analog to digital television broadcasting. Specifically, Tijuana TV stations are required to end analog transmissions on April 16, 2013, the first Mexican city to do so as a pilot program for other transitions nationwide. References are included.

Article vandalized on 8 April 2012, then restored to previous version

This article was vandalized on 8 April 2012 in what appears to be a deliberate attempt to remove all references to San Diego 6 and The CW, leaving the impression that XETV is exclusively a Televisa Canal 5 affiliate. XETV's own website, SanDiego6.com, clearly demonstrates that is not true, especially its station history page and program listings for digital channel 6.1. I undid the vandalized edit and restored the entire article to its previous version, which includes verified information on XETV's current digital television schedule.

Televisa's Canal 5 Network programming on digital subchannel 6.2

There is no reference or outside link to support the information claiming XETV is now broadcasting its Televisa sister network Canal 5 (XEQ-TV in Mexico City) on digital subchannel 6.2. This claim is similar to an edit made back in 2009 about XETV converting its analog signal to Televisa's Galavision network while the digital signal would remain in English as San Diego 6, which station management planned but later rescinded pending approval from Mexican broadcast regulators. Unless a reference outside Wikipedia can be given for the Canal 5 claim, the info will be taken down.

I have since found outside references for XETV's start of multicasting on its digital signal and network switch from The CW to Canal 5 on its analog signal. They are cited in the article.

Dropping Spanish-language programming in 1956

There is no reference to a printed or online source to substantiate the claim that XETV dropped all Spanish-language programming in 1956, when it was awarded the full-time ABC affiliation for San Diego. Please provide the source.

Viewer frustration over televised Mexican presidential speeches

I removed the sentence which stated that during the analog TV era, there was viewer frustration on the U.S. side of the border over XETV's required airing of addresses by the president of Mexico, as required for its Mexican broadcast license. Without any linked references in print or online, this statement is subjective and without support. Please provide such references to substantiate that statement.

Also, since XETV is licensed to Tijuana by Mexico's Secretariat of Communications and Transportation and not by the FCC in the United States, its legal priority is to serve the viewing audience in Tijuana, not the English-speaking audience in San Diego, despite its "San Diego 6" branding. One of these references is to a BLOG site. How can that be authoritative? Especially since the blog is a 21 year old kid. I removed the part about XETV fighting the affiliation change because this is not an appropriate reference to a blog site. XETV Ownership

XETV is not owned by Bay City Television, Inc. under Mexican law as is the same law in the United States, foreign nationals are forbidden from owning any media outlets, this includes radio and television stations and newspapers. However foreign nationals can enter into a LMA (Local Market Agreement) with a television or radio station to operate the station but they cannot own it. Misterrick 04:51, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

XETV is owned by Televisa, per the article itself. Bay City Television is a Televisa subsidiary based at XETV's Ronson Road studios in San Diego, and handles news production, programming and advertising for the San Diego area on the parent company's behalf. Clarification: XETV-TV is owned by and licensed to Grupo Televisa, and has been since 1996 when the Azcarraga family transferred ownership of the station to their family-run company. Bay City Television is based at XETV's production facility on Ronson Road in San Diego, and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Televisa. Bay City is XETV's U.S. media sales and programming representative, handling all San Diego 6 transactions (digital channel 6.1) on Televisa's behalf.

BCTV ownership

BCTV is owned by the Azcárraga family, just like Televisa itself. Since BCTV owns no U.S. licenses, the Communications Act does not prohibit this. BCTV leases transmission capacity from international common carriers to transport its programming across the border to the XETV transmitter. In the early days, when the channel 6 studios were still located in the Televisa complex on Mount San Antonio, they used couriers to carry programming and news actualities across the border on film and tape. 121a0012 (talk) 16:48, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

LA TV reception in SD County

The article states that over-the-air reception of LA stations in the SD area was not possible. This is not true, at least not entirely. I grew up in the city of La Mesa in SD county during the 50's and 60's and could get most if not all LA TV stations. Wschart (talk) 03:53, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Adding unreferenced entries of former employees to lists containing BLP material

Hello, Please do not add unreferenced names as entries to the list of former employees in articles. Including this type of material in articles does not abide by current consensus and its inclusion is strongly discouraged in our policies and guidelines. The rationales are as follows:

1. WP:NOT tells us, Wikipedia is "not an indiscriminate collection of information." As that section describes, just because something is true, doesn't necessarily mean the info belongs in Wikipedia.
2. As per WP:V, we cannot include information in Wikipedia that is not verifiable and sourced.
3. WP:Source list tells us that lists included within articles (including people's names) are subject to the same need for references as any other information in the article.
4. Per WP:BLP, we have to be especially careful about including un-sourced info about living persons.

If you look at articles about companies in general, you will not find mention of previous employees, except in those cases where the employee was particularly notable. Even then, the information is not presented just as a list of names, but is incorporated into the text itself (for example, when a company's article talks about the policies a previous CEO had, or when they mention the discovery/invention of a former engineer/researcher). If a preexisting article is already in the encyclopedia for the person you want to add to a list, it's generally regarded as sufficient to support their inclusion in list material in another article. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 15:55, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
