Grammatical oddities and the generally unprofessional layout of the article[edit]
Hello I am a linguistics student at a Canadian university.
I came across this article looking for resources on early Mayan writing. I find the article to be rather lacking both in content and in general format and language used. It is clearly not primarily written by a native speaker of English, as they consistently misuse articles (the words "the" and "a/an"), omitting them when needed and including them incorrectly, for example in the name of the article "Writing in the early America" which sounds incorrect to any native speaker of English, it should instead be "Writing in the early Americas", or "Writing in early America" (I support "Writing in the early Americas" as "Writing in early America" may confuse a reader as pertaining specifically to the United States.
I also find the article to be formatted oddly. So oddly that I simply do not care to elaborate. If you disagree with any of my edits, please reply to me. This article looks fairly new so I hope it can improve substantially.

I noticed many of the same things, so I was encouraged to see your comment. The article is still lacking in many ways. I’m not sure if you’ve had a chance to clean it up yet. In addition to the grammar, there seem to be many claims lacking citation.
”Literacy was and still is a symbol of humanity, and freedom.”
This doesn’t seem like it’s even attempting to appeal to research. It reads like an appeal to common sense being extrapolated to support a historical claim. MBarrett2k (talk) 15:00, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for pointing this out. The section you referenced, in addition to being poorly written and sourced, seemed out of scope. The article takes an abrupt turn from discussing Native American writing into discussing US history specifically, which can hardly be considered "early Americas."
