Basic changes[edit]

I just made some basic changes to this page becuase some of the information provided need clarification. I specifically wanted to address the "witches' teat" as it relates to familiars and the connection between the two becauase it is not mentioned in any of the article. I also thought it necessary to mention Matthew Hopkins, as his ideas influenced the search for and beliefs surrounding witches' marks. I would like to add more as my research continues, specifically to these two areas and also to the methods used to discover witches' marks (i.e. pricking). I removed one use of the term "inquistitors" becuase i think it implies the Spanish Inquistition; and there is no evidence to suggest that the Spanish Inquisition had any interest in the witches' mark to prove a witches' guilt. I want to open up a disscussion about this page if any one is interested! Homefrybebe (talk) 04:44, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why the plurals?[edit]

Why are we using the plural possessive (witches')? In books (according to google book search), the singular witch's mark outnumbers the plural about 3:1, and the singular witch's teat outnumbers the plural about 10:1. Shouldn't we use the easier and more common form? Dicklyon (talk) 16:30, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. Dan Bloch (talk) 02:01, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Third nipple[edit]

Why isn't this explanation mentioned? Third nipples (fully formed or not) are actually more common than people realise.--MacRusgail (talk) 23:14, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Witch's Teat/Witches' Mark[edit]

The lead of the article says not to confuse the Mark with the Teat, and then the article goes on to thoroughly confuse the two. Someone who knows more about this should clean it up somehow. Kchinger (talk) 15:07, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I second that. I will come back and try to sort this out if I have time.--SabreBD (talk) 09:21, 5 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well maybe they could come talk to an actual witch and get the right information. ChariceM (talk) 22:52, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Building marks[edit]

A new article required for these? Martinevans123 (talk) 08:08, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering the same and already used the same source. I think it should be Apotropaic mark, to be linked from here. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:49, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That's all taken care of then, thanks. I also often "get confused" by crosscrossing lines when trying to follow the spirits too closely. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:58, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Color[edit]

I see that blue and red are stated here as possible branding colors, but is not a black mole the witches mark (citation needed)? Or would this put too many people in jeopardy of being declared witches, because black moles are "natural"? Wcichello (talk) 15:10, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
