Basis for article title

What is the basis for titling this article "Princess" Winona? babbage (talk) 01:34, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Good question. I arrived at the article via a link named "Princess We-Noh-Nah", and until I added the spelling parenthetically in the lead section, there was no mention of "We-Noh-Nah" anywhere. If it is an American aboriginal name or word, it's unlikely that it the original spelling was "Winona", as some Anglo-Americans would have a tendency to mispronounce it as "why-no-nuh". — Quicksilver^{T @} 16:21, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

I also question the "Princess" part here. Not only because it's not culturally accurate, but even the non-Native place names I'm aware of, that are based on this legend, do not include that honorific. It's also not WP policy to include titles if they're not part of the proper name. Will go through the sources and think on this. - CorbieV^☊☼ 22:19, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

OK, the Princess thing, which is clearly fictional, is not even in the sources given. If no one objects, tomorrow I will move this. Right now there's a disambig at Winona, so I'm thinking Winona (legend) would probably be best. - CorbieV^☊☼ 23:05, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
