Move?[edit]

I propose moving this page to State of Willie Nelson to comply with WP:VAMOS. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:26, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Another Believer:Well, it is referred to as "Willie Nelson statue" mostly. You find it like that in Google Maps, the press articles and such. Just punch it in in Google Search and you'll see all the references. It is the most common name.--GDuwenHoller! 22:30, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
GDuwen, Well, sure, the subject is certainly a Willie Nelson statue, but is the artwork officially called Willie Nelson Statue? ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:31, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Another Believer: The plaque of the statue merely says "Willie". But even on the website of the artist [1] you see it mentioned as "Willie Nelson Statue". We tend to use in articles the most common name to which a work is known as, but well, that's just my opinion. Maybe we need the input of other editors to see what they think.--GDuwenHoller! 22:36, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
GDuwen, Sure thing! I'll post a quick note at WikiProject Sculpture. Thanks for your work on this article! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:38, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Size and date check out; hook fact is a good "last line" candidate and cited; article is properly cited to reliable sources; spot checks and Earwig indicate CPR/copyvio shouldn't be a concern, QPQ done. I believe this is blazin' to go. - The Bushranger One ping only 20:56, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Willie Nelson StatueStatue of Willie Nelson – Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Visual arts, which says, "For portrait sculptures of individuals in public places the forms "Statue of Fred Foo", "Equestrian statue of Fred Foo" or "Bust of Fred Foo" are recommended, unless a form such as "Fred Foo Memorial" or "Monument to Fred Foo" is the WP:COMMONNAME. If further disambiguation is needed, because there is more than one sculpture of the same person with an article, then disambiguation by location rather than the sculptor is usually better. This may be done as either "Statue of Fred Foo (Chicago)" (typically preferred for North America) or "Statue of Fred Foo, Glasgow" (typically preferred elsewhere). If the sculpture has a distinct common name, like the Bronze Horseman, that should be used." --Another Believer (Talk) 20:40, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I feel it is a case of WP:COMMONNAME. I used the current name since enough sources refer to it as "Willie Nelson Statue" (for example: 1). Google Maps has it as "Willie Nelson Statue", and so does Trip Advisor. The web page of the artist seems to also describe it that way.on his website Maybe on the artist's page the capitalization is accidental, but it doesn't seem to be on the other links.--GDuwenHoller! 21:57, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support or fix over-capitalization – If we keep the current title, we'd have to lowercase "statute", like the mentioned TripAdvisor page does. Nobody caps "statue" in a sentence context, so there's no reason to treat it as a proper name. The alternative "Statue of Willie Nelson" is good, but "Willie Nelson statue" would also be OK. Dicklyon (talk) 05:46, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Willie Nelson (statue) per Dicklyon's reasoning, brevity, and searchability. This seems more of a semi-action statue than a portrait statue, an "approachable" (as the article says) Nelson with a guitar. Added: the statue's name is Willie, see below. Randy Kryn (talk) 11:43, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:32, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Fix over-capitalization I do agree with Dicklyon that a capitalization fix may be the way here. I'd say "Willie Nelson statue" rather than "Willie Nelson (statue)". If we wanted to do the latter, it would be "Willie (statue)" as the plaque near the statue reads. I may also point out that Yelp has it listed as Willie Nelson Statue --GDuwenHoller! 14:33, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for finding the name of the statue, so probably should be Willie (statue) as a named statue, with redirects from the other suggestions. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:55, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I remember seeing it, but I didn't consider it for the name of the article since I never came across any news piece that referred to it just as "Willie". But since it is on the plaque, we can settle all this talk by just renaming it to "Willie (statue)". Still "Willie Nelson statue" or "Statue of Willie Nelson" would redirect there.--GDuwenHoller! 15:09, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If the statue is actually named "Willie", then "Willie (statue)" is good. But I don't want to go there simply on your recollection of seeing it. Can you find a source, or go back and take a picture or something? Maybe I can get my niece in Austin to run over there and take a pic. Dicklyon (talk) 05:56, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Dicklyon. GDuwen posted a picture above, so Willie, as the statue's name, seem appropriate (and Willie Mays has been seen picketing it, so there's that) (satire, for those satireless). Randy Kryn (talk) 15:11, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dicklyon: My comment was that I've seen the name "Willie" on the plaque. There are a number of pictures of it (like the one I posted above) available on the internet. That being said, my remark is that I haven't seen any news piece or website referring to the statue just as "Willie" yet (not on the website of the artist, nor on the website of Capital Area Statues 1 2). So the question is: where does that leave us at with WP:COMMONNAME?--GDuwenHoller! 16:53, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, guys, I had missed the photo link. I'll call off my niece, who said she is going to be near there on Friday. I do see your point better now. It appears that "Willie" may be the title of the piece, but that plaque is also explicit about that. I'd feel better seeing confirmation, but won't object we decide that plaque is evidence enough. Dicklyon (talk) 04:19, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's a primary source and evidence of the official name but no more than that. Andrewa (talk) 22:13, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose all. The name Willie Nelson Statue is fine as is, capitalisation and all. The statue of form and the decapitalisation both fail to be concise; They would broaden the scope to include any statue of Willie Nelson. This article is about a particular statue. Andrewa (talk) 22:09, 25 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to Willie Nelson statue. The current form seems to be the common name, but I agree with Dicklyon that it would be better to decapitalise. Decapitalising does not particularly mean that the meaning is changed from specific to general. See Civil rights movement, Syrian civil war etc. for examples where a sentence-case title refers to a specific thing.  — Amakuru (talk) 14:11, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Another Believer, Randy Kryn, Dicklyon, Andrewa, Amakuru, Necrothesp: We a number of opinions now, and more than seven days have passed since the discussion started (per template). Are we able to bring this process to an end with what we have now gathered, or does any of you need to add something?--GDuwenHoller! 18:56, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
GDuwen, My vote is still for Statue of Willie Nelson per WP:VAMOS. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:46, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Still favor Willie Nelson (statue), but really favor the not-going-to-happen probable real name, Willie. This doesn't really fit the definition of portrait statue, which focuses on facial features, because of the presence of Trigger, which has a notability of its own. Randy Kryn (talk) 20:45, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, my reason to ping everyone was not to ask you to consider your votes. This move request has been opened for more than seven days, and if I counted right, we are 4-4 at the moment (renaming vs. recapitalizing). If we are not able to reach a consensus (according to Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions) that would mean the request could be closed.--GDuwenHoller! 21:02, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Did anyone besides Andrewa suggest that the over-capitalization should be kept? Lacking any other consensus, that at least should be fixed by a move. Dicklyon (talk) 02:14, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose proposed move per WP:COMMONNAME (as noted above) and oppose changing capitalization per WP:TITLECHANGES. I'm with Andrewa that the de-capitalization could imply a broader scope. But the bottom line is there is nothing wrong with the current title. There is nothing to fix; no good reason to move. We really need to stop encouraging such silly moves. Just say no. --В²C 16:55, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
