Age reservation[edit]

His birthdate needs a careful check. I have just read his sketch in the 1980 Who's Who, which only gives his birthdate as 31 January1897, making him likely to be no more than 85 when he died in 1982. He did not apparently complete his university education until after he came out of the army (Royal Tank Corps) in 1924 (gaining a Bachelor of Commmerce in 1925 and an MA in 1939) having only served since 1916. In 1916 he would have been joining the army at the relatively late age of 28 or 29 rather than 18 or 19 suggested by 1897. The age 95 is not mentioned on the newspaper report of his death in the Shropshire Star (1 May 1982, 1st edition).Cloptonson (talk) 13:30, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
