A note on the terms "Judea" and "Samaria"[edit]

Usage of the terms "Judea" and "Samaria" in article space appears to contravene 3 key Wikipedia policies: Naming Conventions, Undue weight and Neutral Point of View. [1][2] A large body of evidence [3][4] has been collected during extensive discussions (see list below) that unequivocally shows that these terms, alone and in combination, are almost entirely peculiar to Israel. As of today, no sources, reliable or otherwise, have been put forward that contradict this finding.

Use of Area C[edit]

Not sure what the issue is here the text is supported by the cited source. relevant quotes from source:

"The Palestinians could expand their struggling economy by a third and halve their budget deficit if Israel allowed them to use the 61 per cent of West Bank territory that is now largely off-limits, the World Bank said today....

Israel has sole control over 61 per cent of the West Bank, or Area C....Most of the West Bank’s natural resources and open spaces, including the sparsely populated Jordan Valley, are located in Area C. Yet less than one per cent of Area C is open for Palestinian use, the bank said. Most of the rest of the land is controlled by Israeli settlements or has been designated as nature reserves and closed military zones, making it off-limits to Palestinians." Merge Area C[edit]

Recently user:Kingsindian created article Area C (West Bank) in order to cover one of the divisions of Oslo Accords (still in use today). However this appears to be WP:FORK of the Judea and Samaria Area article, which refers to the administrative division de facto applied in Area C. Since Judea and Samaria Area is the more developed article i propose to merge the useful information here.GreyShark (dibra) 17:16, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. Judea and Samaria is the Israeli term for the land it occupies. Area C (West Bank) by contrast was defined in protocols underwritten by Israel and the Palestinian Authority. We need a major expansion of this article, which requires an independent page. By the same token, one could argue that it should be merged with West Bank, or be regarded it as a fork of West Bank. To avoid 'isappearing' it into either it deserves an autonomous page.Nishidani (talk) 18:07, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose: Area C is the biggest and most important area in the West Bank, comprising 60% of the total. It deserves an article by itself. I have slacked off a bit in the past few weeks in trying to expand it, but there is a lot of material available, some of which is mentioned on its talk page. There appears to be an internal contradiction, in the introduction, the article states "As of 2015, Area C is home to 150,000 Palestinians", yet in the body under the heading Area C it states "in 2013, some 300,000 Palestinians lived in Area C, scattered over 532 residential locations" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Juditor (talk • contribs) 14:42, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Control over Area C[edit]

According to the text of the Oslo agreement, the Palestinians are supposed to have control over Area C, not the Israelis.

Article XVII, Section 2:

"Area C which, except for the issues that will be negotiated in the permanent status negotiations, will be gradually transferred to Palestinian jurisdiction in three phases, each to take place after an interval of six months, to be completed 18 months after the inauguration of the Council. At this time, the jurisdiction of the Council will cover West Bank and Gaza Strip territory, except for the issues that will be negotiated in the permanent status negotiations.

Territorial jurisdiction includes land, subsoil and territorial waters, in accordance with the provisions of this Agreement.

b. The functional jurisdiction of the Council extends to all powers and responsibilities transferred to the Council, as specified in this Agreement or in any future agreements that may be reached between the Parties during the interim period.

c. The territorial and functional jurisdiction of the Council will apply to all persons, except for Israelis, unless otherwise provided in this Agreement.

d. Notwithstanding subparagraph a. above, the Council shall have functional jurisdiction in Area C, as detailed in Article IV of Annex III.

This explicitly includes Planning and Zoning:

ARTICLE 27, Planning and Zoning

2. In Area C, powers and responsibilities related to the sphere of Planning and Zoning will be transferred gradually to Palestinian jurisdiction that will cover West Bank and Gaza Strip territory except for the issues that will be negotiated in the permanent status negotiations, during the further redeployment phases, to be completed within 18 months from the date of the inauguration of the Council.

No clear definition for Area B[edit]

Can't find any. Maybe hidden under piles of info, which is as bad as none. A clear, concise overview of the main details of areas A, B, C would hugely help users who don't want to study the subject in great depth: definition (crt state), area (% of WB), population (Pal. and settlers), maybe number of villages/settlements (less essential than population figures IMO).
