This guy deserves better[edit]

I'm not a specialist in mathematics by any means, but do find Dr. Fenchel's biography completely fascinating, for which reason I've spent just a little bit of my time this morning trying to flesh some of it out a little better than had been the case when I first stumbled across this article based on a completely random comment from a stranger in a chat room dedicated to discussion of completely unrelated subject matter. Indeed, I think (in retrospect) that the German chatter's reference to "fenchel" as "a tasty treat" may in fact have been intended to refer to the vegetable or spice which in English we typically call fennel.

What was Fenchel's connection to Bohr? How important are ideas which first articulated to fields of contemporary interest such as nonlinear programming? I only ask these questions -- the most baldfacedly obvious ones, at that -- to hopefully get folks thinking how they might improve on an article like this, themselves.

I've dared to punch it up a little bit with nothing more to go on than at first than the VIAF entry for the man, his Theseus entry, and some random Wikipedia links.

Very good start for an encyclopedia entry here.

But it's only just a start!

How'd you improve it?

Show me. Please!  :^) :^) Xeltifon (talk) 21:21, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
