Gower as the primary area of Italian immigration?[edit]

Can someone shed any light on the source for this - I can't find ANYTHING by Googling! Pondle (talk) 11:58, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The first wave were 19th Century immigrants, however most date from WWII: there was a large POW camp in the hills behind the Graig and the prisoners were allowed to help work in the local community. Inevitably some fell for local girls and stayed: there's also a Ukrainian club for those conscripted by the Germans, not far from the soccer stadium. 100,000+ Welsh Italians[edit]

Ice cream shop claim[edit]

I have reverted the addition of material about an ice cream parlour being one of the oldest in Wales - not for the first time. This claim needs an independent source that verifies it if it is to be added again. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:44, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I make no claim about Bargoed, a town I have only passed through once, in the wee small hours, in the back of an Army truck. However, the finest local icecream is made by the Italians, foremost among them Sidoli - two of whose family members are mentioned as Rugby players. They're even riffed on in Fireman Sam! It must be said that the two or three Joes shops keep them up to scratch - and Joe Cascarini was Italian too. Similarly, Verdi's is a very favourite local restaurant in the Mumbles.
