Something is not right here. There is already a page called Trading with the Enemy Act. This page, called "War Powers Act", is also about the Trading with the Enemy Act. Some past versions of this page claimed the two are the same, but I can find no external source to back that up. The current version doesn't even claim the TWEA and WPA are the same. A quick search of the US Code shows there was a "Second War Powers Act (of 1942)" and that the 1973 War Powers Resolution indeed also called itself a "War Powers Act". So shouldn't this page be about the two or three laws actually called the War Powers Act, and not the TWEA?

The only War Powers Act that I am familiar with was in 1973, which required the president to report to Congress within forty eight hours after sending troops to a foreign conflict or increasing the amount of troops in a foreign country.

I am looking at my history book and it says, "War Powers Act of 1941" Gave the U.S. president power to reoganize the federal government and create new agencies; to establish programs censoring news, information, adn abridging civil liberties; to seize foreign-owned property; and award government contracts without bidding"...uhm... I think whoever posted the previous comment is right and this section needs a new name and the actual info for the War Powers Act should be inputed.

Since the 1973 Act of Congress referred to as "The War Powers" Act has nothing to do with "Trading wth the Enemy Act" It is pretty obvous the TWEA stuff if it exists elsewhere can safely be deleted from this section.Awotter 21:25, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed that this War Powers Act and Trading with the Enemy should be merged (it they have not already), but what is the reason to suggest merging with War Powers Resolution? These are two very different acts, which happen to have confusing names. They should keep their own articles, with disambig statements as needed. I'm removing the "merge with war powers resolution" tag. Carboncopy 18:35, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's just completely baffling, in my opionion. The content of this page should probably be moved to TWEA, and this page redirect to disambig page with the WPA of 1941 and the WP Resolution of 1973 mkehrt 22:47, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The two articles show definitely be seperated as the two pieces of legislation were passed over 50 years apart, and really have no real connection. The War Powers Act of 1973 was passed in November over a veto by Richard Nixon. The act requires the president to make a report of any use of military forces within 48 hours of the deployment and that Congress has to approve any military action that will last more then 60 days. The act was passed as a reaction over public uproar over the news that Nixon has authorized over 3,500 bombing raids in Cambodia, a nuetral country, during the Vietnam War. Essentailly the act greatly limited the presidents power of the military.

If this information can be used by all means place it into the article, even though it is not into much depth. As a source, cite United States History:Preparing for the advanced placement examination by John Newman and John Schmalbach, published by Amsco School Publications, New York 2007
