Air America lease termination[edit]

Perhaps this page should be updated to reflect developments regarding and Air America presence in NY after WLIB. A web search revealed nothing new. Dogru144, 01:25 13 July 2006 (UTC)

The latest, as of July 24, "Air America, the liberal talk network that airs locally on WLIB (1190 AM), ends it lease with the Inner City-owned station Aug. 31. There's been no word from the higher-ups what will happen after that, but the network is expected to remain on the air in New York. WLIB polled a 1 share in the recently released spring ratings book, which is the same number it had last spring."[1] --Fightingirish 12:19, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It has been done. AAR moves to WWRL (1600 AM) effective September 1, according to [www.allaccess.com].--Fightingirish 23:04, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is this part of the right wing xian attack on Air America?[edit]

The right wing xians bought out KXXT a Phoenix Az Air America station to replace it with Xian programming [2], is this part of the same fanatic crusade?

Fair use rationale for Image:WLIB2006.jpg[edit]

WLIB in the 1960s - where is the story?[edit]

I have read this article and it was of some interest to know what WLIB's history has been since I left New York. However, the history as it is given in this article begins in the 70s. That history shows that what was most important and interesting in WLIB'S history was already over by then. To illustrate this point briefly, one of the leading DJs at LIB was none other than Dr. Billy Taylor, who every evening hosted a knockout show that was also, befitting his doctorate in musical education, a musical education. When LIB signed on and off the air, they played "Lift Every Voice and Sing", which is surely no surprise. I do wish I knew whose version it was, it was the best. Aretha's, Kim Weston's the Brooklyn Choir's many others, all good in their ways, but not that good. I hope some one who knows this story better than I do will fill in this glaring blank in the article's history. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.72.34.202 (talk) 03:19, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Station's origin[edit]

Does anyone have documentation to support the statement "The station's origins reach back to December 1941, when WCNW went on the air from Brooklyn"? The closest citation after that sentence tells about Elias Godofsky becoming general manager of WCNW, but it doesn't say when when the station went on the air.

This publication from May 1936 lists WCNW in Brooklyn. Additionally, this newspaper article from 1933 refers to "WCNW, formerly WMIL, Brooklyn, on 1,500 kilocycles", which indicates that the station existed before then. Eddie Blick (talk) 21:29, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
