WKNR 1220 logo[edit]

I've restored the black and white version. Recently a new registered user (User:Rockford87) uploaded a color version of the station's logo during its years as WKNR. I like the idea of adding color, but not at the expense of reducing the frequency number's size and readability. Given the fact this station is frequently, and incorrectly, identified as WKNR (850 AM), I feel it is necessary to keep the version which more clearly illustrates the station's frequency. Interesting note[edit]

WHKW/Cleveland (1220 AM) carried the WKNR callsign for 10 years and 355 days, from July 13, 1990 to July 3, 2001. WKNR/Cleveland (850 AM) has carried the WKNR callsign—including today, August 1, 2012—for 11 years and 29 days, from July 3, 2001 to the present. In other words, WKNR/850 has carried the WKNR callsign longer than WHKW/1220 ever did. Levdr1lp (talk) 07:00, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Michigan football[edit]

I just noticed today that WHKW carries U of M football, and I included the Wolverines' radio affiliate page from their website as a reference when I checked to make sure my ears weren't decieving me.

In the edit summary I made a crack about a "buncha traitors"...just so there's no misunderstandings, I was refering to WHKW (a Cleveland station) airing Wolverine football in Buckeye country. My Buckeye fandom/alligience overcame me. Vjmlhds 18:23, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Start date[edit]

The license's start date is 1924 & should only reflect that. That's the air date. 2005 is just a format change & was taken out of the infobox because it is not a new station dating from that date. It is just a format/call change which is still reflected in the original article. First of all, I have found many cases where a station's first broadcast occurs *after* the license is issued – they are two different things. And yes, there is only one "first air date" for the station overall (i.e., the frequency), but the infobox field does not differentiate between first station air date and first callsign air date. "First air date" alone is ambiguous; moreover, neither Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Radio Stations nor Template talk:Infobox radio station have anything definitive to say on the matter. More often than not, especially for older stations, the first use of the station callsign is treated as the "first air date" for the station. Levdr1lp / talk 19:22, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Readers often identify radio stations with the current callsign in use, particularly if that callsign has been in use for a long time. I see nothing wrong with the first air date *for the current callsign* and the first air date overall. Levdr1lp / talk 22:40, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Some proposed changes[edit]

This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered.

Redoing top disambig, section headers, etc.[edit]

levdr1lp: Thank you for the revert. After consideration, I changed the top disambig back to the prior one for WHK (AM) (I would still include it at the top because of the very obvious call letter similarity and past usage) as the other two links were indeed not needed or necessary. Also went and tried to simplify the section titles so they had some more of an encyclopedic tone to them and cleaned up the quote boxes. I broke up "WHK/WHKW" back into the two subsections for the 2001 "frequency swap" and WHKW callsign change. (An aside, I really get annoyed at the alphabet soup Salem created with that three-letter callsign.)

Content-wise, as had been stated earlier, there's at least The Goodwill Stations that I want to fork out of this article. Some of the info on Imus, Paar and Lanigan could be moved to their respective articles, but it might merit consultation on my part as to what merits relevance on this article and hopefully make it more balanced.
