Untitled[edit]

Is there any way in which the reference to his R5L show could be expanded to mention his extraordinary discussions with groups of Northern Irish politicians of pretty much all strands of opinion? I remember being captivated by those at the time. Loganberry (Talk) 01:19, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Well, yes - except that I can't remember more than vague impressions of what happened in them. For example I can remember a DUP politician refusing to speak unless the Sinn Fein representative's phone line was actually cut off before the former opened his mouth, but I can't remember the names, dates etc; in other words, I can't write this to encyclopedic standards. I was present at a Liberal Democrat conference fringe meeting (September 1995) featuring Mitchel McLaughlin and Gary McMichael which was apparently the first time the two groups had appeared together in a debate. Nice anecdote[edit]

Derek Banks adds a personal note. In 1973 I was a Documentary / Current Affiars Cameraman for BBC Panorama and 24 Hrs at BBC Lime Grove Studios when Vincent arrived. I was to shoot his very first film and "piece to camera". At the end of the first day I thought to myself "where did they dig this guy up from". On camera he was visably nervous, extremely so with an eye line all over the place, he appeared to have a speach defect, a stutter which he struggling to over come. He was also wooden and moved as if wearing concrete underwear. He will never survive.... However I was so wrong. Within a very short time he became on camera, both live TV and film, one of the most accomplished performers and was a pleasure to work with. We used Arri BL16 mm blimped film cameras and Perfectone quarter inch tape recorders. This note was prompted by the death of Gerry Fitt whose daughter Vincent married. I clearly remember visiting Fitt's Belfast house with Vincent. 28/08/2005
