Dubious info[edit]

Vietnamese in the UK are not the largest group of overseas Vietnamese in Europe, in fact it's among the smaller ones. Vietnamese in France number at least 250,000, much larger than the UK community. Also, Germany has almost 100,000 Vietnamese. Estimates put about 150,000 in Russia. DHN (talk) 15:33, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know that Vietnamese people in the UK are not the largest Vietnamese community in Europe, which was wrongly stated by the creator of this page, I have corrected it in the population and distribution part
That's because the UK has no link with vietnam. Vietnam was ruled by France and thus the vietnamese were French citizens. The vietnamese in Germany and Russian came from communist times, when these countries were allies, for example East Germany, which then reunited with West Germany to form the Germany of today. 86.138.119.220 (talk) 01:42, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Flag[edit]

I've removed the flags per WP:FLAGCRUFT. These flags add nothing to the article, since the people are not representing Vietnam, and the presence of the flag might be offensive to some of them. DHN (talk) 20:11, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Human Trafficking[edit]

Please do not mention human trafficking again. Careful reading of official police papers do not support such allegations.217.42.37.147 (talk) 00:21, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Which police papers are you referring to? All the sources agree that the Vietnamese are the main source of cannabis-growing activities in the UK. DHN (talk) 01:12, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Papers for operations Keymer and Pentameter. No disagreement on cannabis growing but needs a better reference. There is no evidence of human trafficking. Gang activity is not a prominent area for Vs in UK. For example, the Met Police's list of gangs in London had no Vietnamese gangs.217.42.37.147 (talk) 14:25, 13 August 2008 (UTC)86.132.106.182 (talk) 19:05, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's plenty of evidence of vietnamese human trafficking. Read the cannabis factories news reports and crime reports, and you will find the 'gardeners' were very often illegal immigrants trafficked from vietnam. 81.159.82.167 (talk) 00:47, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Social issues[edit]

In terms of social issues, the vietnamese in the UK are treated much better than native UK populations in similar or worse situations. The vietnamese are provided with government housing, often completely paid for by the social system. On top they are paid a myriad of social benefits. The vietnamese tend to work in the black economy, where their pay is undeclared to the tax authority and social services. There is no motivation for the vietnamese to work in the normal economy as they will have to pay tax and lose their social benefits. This fraudulent way of living has carried onto the third generation vietnamese, who like their grandparents are living off the UK taxpayer. The vietnamese are thus very cash rich, spending their money on gambling, cars, cigarettes and sending money that originated from the UK taxpayer to vietnam. Large amount of public housing in London boroughs such as Hackney and Lewisham are now given to vietnamese over the needs of other people. The vietnamese in the UK have become expectant of free housing and free money from the UK government forever. 86.138.119.220 (talk) 02:18, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is no evidence of this in any papers which I have read. There does seem to be a notable lack of information regarding this community online. Further, several posted reference publications have gone missing from the official websites where they were previously housed. I will attempt to find and fix the links. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Greenwjam (talkcontribs) 16:30, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
