(A2's were never fitted with Westinghouse Cross Compound brake pumps. They were not rebuilt with superheated boilers, merely, the existing boiler was fitted with a 'Schmidt' type superheater.)

Thanks for the corrections, and yes the lack of cross compound compressor is evident in the photo of A2 986 in the 1960s. I've also corrected the link for superheaters ([[superheater]]s not [[superheaters]]). Zzrbiker 05:18, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Existing A2's[edit]

"A2 996 is preserved in Victorian regional city of Echuca and A2 964 is preserved in the Melbourne suburb of Reservoir." As a little more detail, 964 is currently in Edwardes Park, in Reservoir (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=edwardes+park,+reservoir+victoria&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=50.69072,135.263672&ie=UTF8&hq=Edwardes+Lake+Park&hnear=Edwardes+Lake+Park,+Reservoir+VIC+3073,+Australia&ll=-37.71477,144.995229&spn=0.00039,0.001032&t=h&z=21).

There's a plaque on it with some nice information:

Locomotive A2 Class no. 964

Preston City Council and placed in Edwardes Park

On 25th June, 1969

Weight of engine, 67 tonnes (66 tons) Weight of tender, 22.3 tonnes (22 tons)"

If anyone wishes to work that into the article, or I can snap a photo or two. etc. Cheers, Kale (talk) 08:18, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Loco conversion/renumbering tables[edit]

For the record, some but not all the data is made available at [Australian Railway History, August 2019 web extra]. The gaps are filled in by cross-referencing with Medlin and the VR loco card scans on Bau's website. Over time I intend to replace all the "?"'s with proper values. Also worth noting that the ARHS listing has A2 973 listed twice and 971 missing in the Walschearts series; I haven't checked the Stephensons list. I have informed ARHS via Facebook and they said they would fix the oversight but that apparently has not happened yet. Anothersignalman (talk) 03:40, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
