The article calls Victor Gao a "spokesperson of the "CCP" (CPC). That is incorrect.[edit]

Victor Gao is not and never was a member - and even less a spokesperson - of the Communist Party of China. Even though it's not clear to me to which specific political party he belongs, he has several times stressed in CGTN videos that he belongs to one of the "democratic" political parties of China (which include: Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, China Democratic League, China National Democratic Construction Association, China Association for Promoting Democracy, Chinese Peasants' and Workers' Democratic Party, China Zhi Gong Party, Jiusan Society, Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League).

Whatever our view could be about the independence and freedom of action of those parties in the context of Chinese politics, it would be incorrect to maintain the part of the article in which it's claimed that he is a "spokesperson of the "Chinese Communist Party, CCP" (Communist Party of China, CPC).

Even when he worked as an interpreter for Deng Xiaoping, his function was not as a CPC member, rather, he was the interpreter of Deng Xiaoping because the latter was the leader of the CPPCC (Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference), which is a consultative body that includes the other political parties in China and civil society organizations (such as the national trade union, the youth organization, the women's organizations, etc). Only a percentage of CPPCC members are members of the CPC, and one does not need to be a member of the CPC to be an interpreter for the leader of the CPPCC (as Gao was of Deng).

I sadly cannot speak nor read Mandarin/Chinese, but in order to make the claim that he is a member of this or that party, it would be required that a source be added regarding his membership of this or that party. 2A02:3030:815:ABB3:90C6:8802:B56D:E530 (talk) 16:45, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I second this. Gao is a member of a different party than the CPC by his own admission (https://news.cgtn.com/news/2022-11-07/How-does-whole-process-people-s-democracy-work--1eJSwwxCtji/index.html) JapanStar49 (talk) 13:21, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
