I think you’re wrong there. It’s a french term and “Films noir” is the accepted phrasing even when used in English. Check the wp page for Film Noir - “films noir” is used throughout. 2016 Stewart Lake Hoax archived[edit]

The 2016 Stewart Lake Hoax has been archived. Please do not put it back on this talk page - it was proven to be a hoax. Please read this article's section "I Wanted Wings and stardom" Her name was changed in 1940 from her birth name of Constance Frances Marie Ockelman, to her movie star name of Veronica Lake, by director Arthur Hornblow Jr. At that time, her husband was direrctor John S. Typo on page[edit]

Instead of listing her years active as “1939–1954; 1966; 1970”, I instead suggest listing them as “1939-1970” as although these years are accurate regarding her screen career, she was often working professionally as a stage actress in the years between those listed, as supported by her selected stage credits within the page. Sparks song in "In popular culture"[edit]

I'd like to add an entry in the "In popular culture" section about the 2023 song "Veronica Lake" by the music band Sparks, which describes Lake's distinctive hairstyle, the danger it posed to factory workers who copied it, her subsequent change of hairstyle, and resulting decline in her popularity.

Preston Sturges was never "physically restrained."[edit]

Hair[edit]

To clarify the status of her hair during WW2:

The United States government approached her to modify her hairstyle to a more practical and safer one for women working in factories during the war. Lake obliged and introduced a new hairstyle called the victory roll, which aimed to promote safety and functionality for women working in factory settings.^[1]

Note that she sported this shorter hairstyle in the 1943 film So Proudly We Hail!. Here is a link to a photo of her in the "victory roll" hairstyle:[2]
