Velika Planina world war material[edit]

When I saw the world war material on Velika Planina, I thought it related to this article. I feel embarrassed about posting Velika Planina world war material information in this article since it turns out to have been about a different Velika Planina. I appologize for any confusion this caused. -- Suntag 16:33, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Low roofs?[edit]

It's not clear to me. Why is a building with a roof that extends to the ground more accommodating to livestock than a building with a standard roof? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.174.43.195 (talk) 18:44, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Further, the article cited for that point does not support it at all. I made the change removing this from the article and it was undone for unexplained reasons. I'm re-doing the removal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.107.70.253 (talk) 19:26, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I wondered the same thing. Removing it again. Cmadler (talk) 19:45, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just realised that it was really not clear from the start if one has never seen such a building. Added a link to a cross section of a typical hut which illustrates the idea ... livestock are accomodated on the outside of the main 'cell' which is the living quarters for the shepherd and the roof extending to the ground provides shelter for the animals. Hope this makes it clearer. Kaktus999 (talk) 06:28, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, that makes more sense. Unfortunately, Geocities pages are not considered reliable sources so I am removing that link as a citation, but leaving the relevant text in the article. What might be good is if you or someone else familiar with the subject would supply such a cross-section sketch to Wikipedia for inclusion in this article. Another good option might be photographs of the interior of one of these buildings. Cmadler (talk) 15:10, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What is the justification for the policy that "Unfortunately, Geocities pages are not considered reliable sources"? Is it articulated somewhere? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.107.70.253 (talk) 18:15, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Found another similar drawing (without the cow! ... though looking at it again it was the cow that made it clearer) at this page and more useful drawings on this page, all on a site which is hosted on the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts address, but is unfortunately only in Slovene. This, I am sure though is more of a reliable source than the Geocities site, so If you think it is appropriate this could be included as a link or reference somewhere. Kaktus999 (talk) 16:26, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't speak or read Slovene, so I can't fully evaluate it, but that seems like a good source. Is the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts a government agency? If so, might those images be public domain (and therefore suitable to add directly to the article)? Cmadler (talk) 17:55, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have added it as a reference and changed the text a little to make it clearer. Though the Research Centre is government funded, I doubt the images are public domain ... perhaps I will get round to doing a sketch at some point and upload it to Wikimedia, but in the meanwhile this will have to do ... perhaps someone else will add usefull stuff. I was surprised in the first place this article was proposed for DYK, but now see that this can indeed help make it better and clarify points that might not seem obvious to the person creating it. For the time being, thank you for your useful imput and guidance.Kaktus999 (talk) 06:48, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. I like learning about new things, and I'm glad whenever I can help improve an article on a topic with which I was previously completely unfamiliar. :-) Cmadler (talk) 14:16, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
